From the Publisher

Whether fighting off competitors or tackling time challenges that strain even the best personal and business relationships, the 50 top private company CEOs profiled in CEO ROAD RULES defined success on their own terms and moved from simple success to significance. No longer satisfied with the external trappings of success, these CEOs found balance and fulfillment in all areas of their lives while building a lasting legacy that has made a profound difference to their employees, their friends and family, their community, and the world. Zeroing in on the three key areas of leadership that mattered most in these leaders' transformation--focus, people, and execution--CEO ROAD RULES brings together a wealth of real-world examples, dozens of techniques and tools, and a fictional tale of one CEO's journey of self-discovery to explore the vision, mission, and meaning that drive individual happiness and fulfillment. Pragmatic yet inspiring, authors Key and Stearns take readers step by step through a dynamic learning process that translates strategies into an individual Significance Plan and demonstrates how any CEO or executive can build a full and integrated life that has lasting significance beyond money, fame, and power.

From the Inside Flap

In this absorbing guide, authors Mary Key and Dennis Stearns introduce their eminently practical "road rules" with a contemporary story in the tradition of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Journeying through past, present, and future relationships with family, colleagues, and employees, business entrepreneur Joe rediscovers the values, mission, and meaning that drive individual happiness and achievement, and demonstrates how any executive can move beyond money, fame, and power to significance.

The ensuing chapters interweave profiles of fifty top private company CEOs with a variety of real-world examples, dozens of techniques and tools, and actionable strategies for personal and professional transformation. No longer satisfied with the external trappings of success, the profiled CEOs found balance and fulfillment in all areas of their lives while building a lasting legacy that has made a profound difference to their employees, friends, and family; their community; and the world.

Offering a wealth of value and advice, CEO ROAD RULES also takes readers through a dynamic process that translates strategies into an individual Significance Plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use CEO Road Rules as a road manual for implementing values-based business planning., December 10, 2006
This review is from: CEO Road Rules: Right Focus, Right People, Right Execution (Hardcover)
Two authors survey the 'road rules' of the CEO using an unusual approach: by providing a contemporary parable story which winds through past, present and future relationships with family, colleagues, and the business community to illustrate how the protagonist 'Joe' rediscovers values and meaning within his business pursuits. Profiles of some fifty top private company CEOS concurrently illustrate numerous techniques, tools and tips for effecting such transformation. Use CEO Road Rules as a road manual for implementing values-based business planning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Business Owner, December 6, 2006
This review is from: CEO Road Rules: Right Focus, Right People, Right Execution (Hardcover)
Being an entrepreneurial CEO and leading an organization through growth transitions can be lonely, exhilarating, troubling and exciting. Using the tools described by Key and Stearns, leaders of such organizations have useful, practial guides to make the transitions successful. Building resilience, achieving balance and passing from success into significance requires the right focus and the right people working together with great execution. The CEOs described here, hope you will benefit from their journey as Nido Qubein says "with less trial and a lot less error in your work and personal lives."

5.0 out of 5 stars CEO Psychology, November 23, 2006
This review is from: CEO Road Rules: Right Focus, Right People, Right Execution (Hardcover)
From my own background in psychology, this CEO allegory makes perfect sense! Not only is it a sound guide for leadership in the business world, but also serves as a valuable roadmap for life. Dr. Key has drawn from a story familiar to all of us, and applied these lessons to company management. The principles of the book are written in a clever form which is easy to understand, incorporate and apply. I would recommend "CEO Road Rules" for all those interested in a business or psychological field. In fact, it would be an invaluable guidebook in graduate level programs as preparation for future careers: for professors, the points made lend themselves to clear, concise presentations; for students, the book is ideal for small discussion groups. It is my hope that "CEO Road Rules" will find a wide audience in those readers who are searching for the "right focus, right people and right execution" in the career of their choice.
