The FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filter is an easy to install air filter that both filters and deodorizes the air drawn into your vehicle, as well as improves available airflow critical to the efficient workings of air conditioning and heating systems. Designed utilizing the first of its kind mix of active carbon and baking soda woven into the fibers of the filter, it has the ability to remove up to 98% of contaminants that drivers, passengers and vehicle air ducts are exposed to, while also providing twice the protection against commonly occurring odors than other cabin air filters.

What is a Cabin Air Filter?
Not nearly as well-known as familiar oil and standard air filters, many drivers may never even have heard of a cabin air filter. Usually located either inside the passenger compartment near the glove compartment, or under the hood near the windshield, they are used to filter air drawn into your car from the outside for the comfort of passengers, as well as for use by air conditioning and heating systems. They are designed to minimize particles both large and small, as well as allergens and other contaminants and are used in approximately 80% of the vehicles built since the 2000 model year. It is recommended that they be replaced on either an annual basis, or every 15,000 miles. Like any other automotive filter, neglecting to do this can lead to possible risks to your vehicle and/or passengers, in this case including impeded performance of your heating or air conditioning systems by limiting the flow of fresh clean air used by those systems, as well as possible corrosion inside the system and musty or even noxious air vented throughout the vehicle.

May reduce air flow coming from vents,

I purchased and installed this on a 2005 Toyota Camry. It is about the simplest replacement part to do by yourself. The fit on the filter was perfect; very snug and tighter even than the OEM cabin air filter that was previously installed. Be sure to orient the filter so that you can compress the "accordion" of the filter element a bit to tuck it under the little tabs that hold the filter in place. Also make sure to match the arrow on the filter with the direction of air flow for the ventilation system (on the '05 Camry the air flow is up).
Don't expect the baking soda and activated carbon to magically eliminate any outside odors from coming in to the vehicle. We can't really tell if this filter is really twice as effective at deodorizing than regular filters, as the description claims. However, one thing we have noticed is that the filter does seem effective at getting rid of the musty smell that sometimes occurs after the car is started again after the A/C has been running for awhile. One negative characteristic of this filter is that the volume of air coming out of our vents seems to be noticeably weaker than before with an OEM filter. This seems to be a consequence of the more effective filtering ability of this filter. This hasn't been a problem so far, but we will see if this decrease in air flow is sufficient to reduce the effectiveness of the A/C system when the weather gets hot again.

Yes I have a Smart ForTwo and yes this filter fits. Perfect really and at a savings of about $40 per filter. I have no idea what the dealer would charge to install it, but it couldn't be easier to do yourself. Check Eviloution.co.uk for how to details.
