After being told the Toyota dealer wanted $70 to replace my Prius cabin air filter, I went online and found a YouTube video on how to replace it. Bought this filter, with a $6 rebate and no shipping charge for two, which is far superior to the original equipment (more pletes, carbon and baking soda filtration) -- and it fit perfectly in the existing tray. It took me less than one minute to replace the filter. It was so easy.

I highly recommend this filter as a better alternative to the factory part. Although there's nothing wrong with the stock Toyota filter, the addition of activated charcoal and baking soda reduce the odors reaching the cabin from an often-smelly highway. It may not eliminate the most noxious pollutants, but it does help. BTW, I avoid Fram's oil filters, but they seem to manufacture good air filters, both for the ventilation system and for the engine.

Not a good cabin filter in the cold climate,

I bought this cabin filter for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner; at first it was good by having a more pleasant smelling car. Problems started to arise when the cold winter in Minneapolis arrived, specifically when I went through a warm and humid car wash. My theory is the carbon was cold and when it met the warm moist air condensation formed on the filter making it wet. The wet filter nearly blocked all airflow into the cabin causing the fan to work harder and the windows on the inside became fogged over. I removed the filter, dried with a hairdryer and reinserted filter. When it happened a 2nd time I removed the filter and bought another non carbon filter.
This is the reason for my 2 star rating.

I had to trim the filter to fit my Corolla, but it looked like a much higher quality filter than the original.

I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 and it's recommended that I change the cabin filter every 15,000 miles or once a year. The dealership charges close to sixty bucks for this little bugger, so I decided to see about doing it myself and found the FRAM CF9846A Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter on Amazon. By doing a search on how to install it (video available on YouTube doing search 'Changing cabin auto filter, Toyotal 4Runner 2003') and buying this product from Amazon, I saved money and I believe I purchased a superior product to the stock filter.
It is a bit of a bear to get the glove box back into place - at least for me, but generally speaking the replacement of this filter can be done in 15 minutes in most instances. The tough part for me seems to be reseating the glove box so that it has smooth operation. The directions in the air filter box are inadequate and the step-by-step ones on YouTube were a God send! Three basic steps to get to the filter: unscrewing screw on right side, unhooking arm and removing the glove box by pinching the sides to expose the filter behind the glove box. Changing out the filter is simple and you want to have the flattest part of the filter down in the air filter rack when you slide it into position. Reversing the order of things is how you finish up. I'm not a mechanic, but I am a girl who likes to save money, which is what I do when I change this filter myself. As for the 'fresh scent', I don't notice it too much, but I see that as a perk because when it's time to change the filter I really get some funky scents - especially in the summer with the AC going. On this particular 4Runner, I sometimes get a sulfur smell in the cabin (a problem with this model year I'm told...) when I stomp on the accelerator, but this filter makes that much less noticeable. Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase and will by more of them in the future. Local oil change places charge more than forty for the filter alone. This is a great price, fairly easy to install and it works.

I have been looking for better cabin air filter for my truck, for very long time. I thought this would be perfect as it has a combo of physical and chemical filtration. As I do alot of long road trips for work as well as long haul trips off pavement. Although it was apparent there was something wrong with this filter from the get go. It does not allow enough air through even when brand new. My trucks ac works like a home thermostat as many newer vehicles do, you set the temp that you prefer in the car and the system automticlly xetermines the speed of fan it takes to achieve that temp. Well with this filter installed, the fan runs at it's highest speed constantly, as it is not able to pump enough aid in to get to the set temp. While I can agree to a fine line of good filtration vs something that let's to much air through and thus does not really filter. But when it's brand new and having issues, it will just vet worse in a short amount of time on the road. I removed the filter after two weeks.

Hey, I am going to try out a different brand filter too, for comparison. I can tell you however, beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is WAY better than the factory filter.

This FRAM cabin air filter is sturdy and easy to replace in my Prius. It only takes 5 minutes and costs much less than the OEM filter

Toyota offers two OEM air filter: standard and high-quality. I'd place the Fram filter somewhere in between those. If you're not up to removing your glove compartment; you might want to have the dealer install an OEM filter. On Toyota's, it's fairly simple to replace the cabin filter and it only takes a few minutes. This filter reduces the airflow so the fan has to work harder than it did with the standard OEM filter. This is the first cabin filter replacement in 7 years and my old filter wasn't that dirty. I don't drive on dirt roads so I don't need to change cabin air filters that often.

All the odors are gone!,

Yep, my car has that musty old smell that's almost unbearable to me, I had to use my car AC at all times instead of using outdoor air. I noticed that my car didn't even have a cabin air filter so I decided to buy this to filter out the air. It fits perfectly (Celica 01). Amazingly, ALL the odors are gone. It does such a good job that I have stopped using my car AC and leave the outdoor airflow on for 24/7 instead. I would recommend buying this product and replacing it every 15,000 miles just because it does such a good job for such a low price.
