What a time saver!,

wow, this utility knife saves so many steps in marking and cutting drywall sheetrock, the way it attaches to the end of the tape measure eliminates the need for a straight edge, or even a pencil!! I got one for myself as well as my father! works well for all your household cutting needs, plastic sheet for gardening, marking painted metal, etc.
what a great idea!!

Good Idea, Needs Work!!!,
This review is from: CH Hanson 03009 SpeedRocker 3 in 1 Drywall Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
Where do I begin? Lets start with the body, The casting is poor and the two halves don't line up. There is extra blade storage inside, so when you open it up the two halves need pried apart because of the poor engining and casting. Once you get it apart hang on it will fall in to multiple pieces. You need to pay attention or it will take you awhile to get it back together. Which mean that you never want to use the blade storage on the inside because it will cut into work flow trying to get it back together. Next the blade switch would get stuck and not let you control the razor depth or let you deploy the blade at all. After about a week of owning it the switch just broke off completely rendering the knife useless. The rasp worked good on large open areas but forget using it on an inside cut. When you do that it will not let you get to the inside corners and if you tried the switch would catch the other edge and push the razor into your hand. Because of the bad casting of the body the tape measure grove was too small and if you tried to use it the tape measure would lock itself in and you would have to take the whole thing apart just to get it to let go. There is a speed button to change the blade it worked good but was very flimsy so no doubt it would of broke in time. Also what is the point of blade storage that requires you to dissemble the whole unit to use the quick change button. And lastly the saw it worked great it is nice and sharp very strong. It was easy to deploy with one hand until the switch broke. The saw blade when folded was unobtrusive and locked in tight. The only thing I didn't like was it was too short so to do a larger cut might require you to re-jab the material multiple times. DO NOT BUY.

Concept good but features falls short. The tool is constructed nicely with good fit and finish, just not fully functional. The blade cannot reach/cut in tight corners because the thumb guard gets in the way. The saw and rasp are too blunt thus requiring more effort.

I really wanted this item to work as it is a great time saver, however, my 25' Craftsman tape measure has an end that was too thick to fit in the groove of the SpeedRocker. It would fit but would need take some effort. Well after about 3 days of intensive drywall cutting and somewhat forcing the tab of the tape measure into the groove, it bent the two body pieces apart enough (that is to say less than half a mm) that the blade no longer opened and shut properly. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw or just a product or perhaps an incompatibility with my tape measure. I had to return it to the Blue Borg where I got it from and finished the job using a fixed blade knife.
If they changed the design to better lock the body securely this would have gotten 5 stars no problem, the feel of the tool (LOVED the large thumb pad area) and the utility of the drywall saw and rasp was awesome.

Dangerous,

I saw this in my local home improvement store thought it might work well for me. I do alot of sheetrock work so I bought this tool thinking it will save time and I would have to carry less tools in my pouch. One day I was using the saw to cut an outlet and my grip on the tool pushed out the razor blade which i had just replaced and it sliced open the side of my pinky!!!!! Needless to say, but it is now in the dumpster.Extremely poor engineering

I bought this knife because it had everything on it to cut and hang drywall. I give it five stars because I had all I needed in one tool.
Plus the measuring and cutting was very cool to do. No need for giant drywall squares that do not fit into your pouch. CH Hanson 03100 SpeedRocker SS |
