After many years of flying with a joystick I decided to take the plunge and buy a yoke for fsx. I had a hard time choosing between this model and the saitek, I spent many hours reading opinions on both and when it came down to the wire I chose CH. I think the saitek looks better but some of the issues people had with it turned me off, like the phantom button press-calibration problems and the detent centering point. First of all setup of the ch yoke was painless and worked right out of the box, the yoke feels about right when moving it in pitch and roll directions with just the right resistance. All functions work well and after spending 12hrs flying Im happy with the purchase. A couple of dislikes is the throttle-prop-mixture on top of the yoke, I would rather have it more to the side and plan on buying a seperate set so will be using those for other functions. The rudder is nice if you dont have one but it will probably be more realistic to purchase the rudder pedals as I plan on doing. My landing in harsh weather has dramatically improved because the yoke feels more precise, and is ALOT more comfortable to fly with for long periods of time. I wish I wouldnt have waited so long to purchase a yoke, it feels more realistic when flying now!

I've spent a few hours flight testing the Eclipse Yoke, and here are my impressions:

* It strikes me as sturdy and well-made. The housing, yoke, and shaft are constructed from a heavy-duty plastic that is light-weight but strong. It feels like a quality product and not a cheap, plastic toy.

* The pitch and roll action are smooth and fluid with just enough resistance to keep it in place while remaining easy to operate with one hand. The rudder paddles and throttle quadrant feature similarly smooth operation with no stickiness or binding. Speaking of rudder paddles, these are a great addition and allow you to put together a minimalist and relatively inexpensive virtual cockpit since you don't have to worry about the added expense of separate rudder pedals.

* The overall quality is further evident in the various buttons, dials, and switches which are firm with nice tactile feedback. There are a substantial number of controls available at your fingertips without drivers and up to a staggering 240 individual commands if you install the CH Products profile software (which I did not, partly because I don't know what I would do with that many options, but mostly because the software is not available for Linux).

* The clamping system is well-designed with the bolts screwing flush into the housing allowing for low-profile installation. Once secured, it is held firmly in place with no danger of slipping or suddenly coming loose.

I tested the Eclipse Yoke in X-Plane 10 and was extremely pleased with how it felt and operated.

I have a 64 bit Vista computer. Third party airplane models don't work correctly with FSX, so I was concerned that this might not work, or that I would have problems setting it up.

I didn't buy the yoke because of the Discover America and Europe flights, especially since the models don't display correctly on my computer. I guess I can load a Microsoft plane in instead, and fly the missions with it.

I bought this yoke from a discount site, as they were less expensive than Amazon. It also looked like it might be discontinued, but it wasn't.

I have the previous version of the CH Products yoke. I wouldn't have gotten this one, except the yoke was really sticky. I put petroleum jelly on the shaft to reduce the friction, it helped some, but not enough. That alone is worth the price difference.

I'm not thrilled with the trim wheel on the yoke. For me, the resistance is way too hard. Also, the trim isn't on the yoke on any of the planes I've flown. I reprogrammed a couple of switches on the yoke to give me flaps and trim, and also had to register the mixture lever with FSX. Originally, the flap switch worked backwards.

The shaft on this yoke also sticks, but a lot less than the previous one. When I first got it, in and out movement felt like sandpaper on sandpaper, so I put some petroleum jelly on the shaft again. The action feels a lot smoother now.

The previous yoke had throttle, prop, and mixture, but they were all black. This yoke's levers are black, blue, and red, respectively. That's a nice touch.

I have an old set of CH Products rudder pedals, which I use. I don't touch the rudder levers on the yoke. They seem to work, but its not all that realistic.

The CH Eclipse Yoke truly ads so much enjoyment to any Flight Simulator product. I had been using a lesser CH Yoke for years and finally stepped up to this one. What a joy! I'm a real world pilot who is no longer flying because of age and health problems. This yoke along with FSX and a POWERFUL computer system restores the thrill of flying.
