1.0 out of 5 stars Nice features, poor quality, September 28, 2006
This review is from: CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB and IL-2 Sturmovik Software - Bundle (Personal Computers)
I bought this for private pilot training. All of the switches, throttles, etc. are easy to set up and use. The problem is the quality of materials makes this unsuitable for training for piloting a real plane. After a short time the internal friction builds up so that it is impossible to get the yoke to center. This means that it is not possible to get a plane trimmed out and the pilot must make constant attitude adjustments. Also because of the friction a firm shove is required to initiate any movement. This technique transferred to a real plane causes a very abrupt application of force to the flight controls. Needless to say this makes practicing IFR just about impossible.

After the problem developed I contacted CH to troubleshoot it. They were very helpful and eventually agreed to exchange it. Within a few hours of flying with the replacement it developed the same problems. This is despite the polishing and lubrication recommended by the support staff.

If you are looking for a yoke to add realism to your flight training steer clear of this one as it will cause you to develop bad habits that will be expensive to break. And after all, weren't we SIMing to save money in the first place?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good solid Yoke, the game doesn't support yokes, November 4, 2004
This review is from: CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB and IL-2 Sturmovik Software - Bundle (Personal Computers)
You can get one of three versions of this flight yoke. This one is the best of them. It has three levers for Throttle, Prop angle and fuel. It also has the ignition switch(I guess) and enough buttons/switches to make any unliscensed airliner pilot happy. The only thing is the game that comes with it is NOT an airliner sim, it's a fighter sim and you need a flight stick(or any standard Joystick) to play it good. The flight yoke is programable but comes with no instructions and no software. I still am going to have to look up some airplain info as to how to program it right(or I'm just an idiot and don't have ESP like everyone else). Rudders are a must because hey, it's a flight yoke and you may as well go all the way. I was feeling silly so I put a silly review for the Throttle Quadrant I will probably have to find info on it too as with all CH no instructions/maps. Other than that, a Big Five Alive! This thing is rock solid. The plastic is(or seems) the kind used to make polycart trash dumpsters, meaning if you drop it it is as if you didn't. The controls are responsive. The wheel is a bit off center but maybe that's the way the game programs it. I still don't know how to properly set the travel of the rudders axis in the game included with this yoke as it is meant for a flight stick.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite There Yet, November 9, 2006

I purchased this yoke thinking that I would get a better flight experience with MSFS but the responsivness of the yoke is terrible. I had an older version from several years ago and it had the same problems. I was hoping that they had improved their product, but it is basically the same yoke that they had 10 years ago with a couple of extra buttons aded. They need to develop a better slide mechanism so that there is a smooth transition when climbing or decending. There is way too much friction between the stick and the collar of the housing. You often need to overcompensate with a sudden push to overcome the friction which makes the plane hard to control. It is very hard to get the yoke to center so you are always having to make adjustments beyond what you can do with elevator trim. But this is pretty much the only reasonably priced yoke on the market, so I wouldnt hold my breath on them revising the design to make this into a quality product. I would not recommend this yoke for anyone wishing to get a true flying experience. I wish Saitek would make a yoke with the same quality that they put into their rudder pedals, but for some reason they have stayed out of the yoke market.
