Please allow me to settle the controversy. In dim light, the color scheme makes it a little difficult to see the letters that indicate the temperature setting. But one gets used to it quickly. Most importantly, the performance is excellent. It toasts gently and evenly compared with some other brands. The results are superior. The only question is how long it lasts. We've had ours for several months, and use it every day. If it lasts even a year, we'll buy another.
15 MONTH UPDATE: Our Chef Pepin Toaster Oven has been in constant use for over 15 months in our kitchen. It has been working fine and we're still very pleased with our purchase. I see some have complained that the "elements are too far from the food" or some such thing. That is exactly why we like it so much -- it toasts slowly and evenly. Previous toaste ovens burned the outside of, say, a bagel without heating the inside (we had to wrap the bagel in aluminum foil to prevent the burning). With the Chef Pepin we don't need to wrap such things in foil -- it cooks more like an OVEN; how can someone complain about that? Still 5 stars. 24 MONTH UPDATE: Still going strong. Still cooking great, evenly, perfectly. All of the positive things I said in previous installments of this review still hold today. I almost wish my chef pepin toaster oven would break -- so I can buy another one!

This toaster oven works great and looks great. It is not the
company's fault if someone (other reviewer) has an eyesight problem. There are many products made with BIG letters for people who want them and she should seek those items out. I had no problem reading the dial numbers. This oven is small so be sure to compare sizes if that's a concern for you.

After reading one positive and one negative review for this toaster oven i decided to buy it. The price was right and the retro style appealed to me. It is difficult to see the numbers and symbols on the toaster without reading glasses but once you know what they are no problem. The toaster oven works great, looks great in my kitchen and I am a happy camper.
