4.0 out of 5 stars CHARLES DE FOREST at DIVA RESTAURANT, December 22, 2008
This review is from: CHARLES DE FOREST: SINGS JOAN CRAWFORD & ELEANOR POWELL (FILM SONG LP VINYL, 1970S) (Vinyl)
This is the only album (i know of) that Charles recorded. He wrote many lovely songs that were recorded by FELICA SANDERS, TONY BENNETT and a few others. In his early days he sounded a lot like Dick Haymes, which ain't bad... BUT, with the facial expressions of Judy Garland. ........... I heard him when he played at DIVA RESTAURANT on East 81st Street in NY. (A hangout for many singers who he would gladly play for). Tony Bennett had just recorded a song Charles wrote called, "When Will the Bells Ring For ME?" It was requested constantly and i remember the owner, Lou Stuart and his manager Karen Mannarelli would ring bells every time he started playing the song. It WAS funny! Charles didn't think so. You had to be there ~ Yes, that was the end of an era. That New York has vanished... just vanished into thin air.
