Bought this mold and the chess/checker board mold from the same company. Worked well. The cake was made for a birthday party and was a huge hit! It didn't come with instructions, so read up on making them if you are unsure. I filled the molds with chocolate and froze them until the were solid. I set those aside and made a fresh set. While those were freshly poured, I put the solid one on top to combine them as one piece. Pop back in the fridge or freezer. Washing with luke warm water to not warp the plastic and not scrubbing to hard to avoid scratching were useful info too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chess Pieces Candy Mold, January 30, 2008

Be careful taking out the King and Queen pieces, as they break easily. Other than that, it is a great mold made of heavy plastic.

I never made anything from a mold before so I didn't know how this would work. It was VERY easy. Melt the chocolate pour it in the mold and let it set up in the freezer. I thin popper out the finished chocolate and all but 2 pieces were perfect. Two of the pieces had air bubbles. The second batch I put the chocolate in the mold and then tapped it on the counter to remove the bubbles and that worked perfect. Then, while the chocolate was still hot I took the first pieces and sat them on top of the freshly poured hot chocolate. When that batch cooled I popped them out of the mold, trimmed the edges and they looked PERFECT. Made a batch of white chocolate pieces and a batch of red chocolate pieces and then used a red Pawn and the white Queen on a twilight themed cake for my daughters 7th birthday. She LOVED it and the guests enjoyed the rest of the chocolate chess pieces...had a couple people ask me to make them a set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool & fun, February 14, 2009

We had a "Twilight" party for my daughter's 10th birthday. We made white and black of the main chess pieces and red pawns, we put two together to look like real pieces, and put them in a candy gift box as a favor. They loved them, and could not believe we had made them. They are good size chess pieces. They are also simple to do. My daughter and her friend did most of the work.

my daughter ordered this chocolate mold to make a cake for her teacher. they played chess a lot in her 5th grade class. She made the pieces and then made a 13x18 inch cake. she made the board out of fondant on the top of the cake and wa able to use toothpicks in the chess pieces whe she made them to secure them to the cake. Everyone loved it and she found the molds easy to use. It was a little hot on the day of the party so the pieces did melt but she looks forward to using them again in cooler weather.

I ordered the chess piece molds for a cake that I made for my bosses son. They were easy to use, and much better looking than I thought they'd be. I was very pleased with my purchase and my bosses son loved his cake!
