I actually bought this straightener at Target then looked at the reviews on here and got nervous that I had made a mistake. Tried it out the following day and I am very pleased. I owned an original CHI iron which stopped working about 6 months ago. Have bought three other high end straighteners since and have been dissappointed with all of them. The CHI Air is just as good as the original. I have fine frizzy, coarse hair which I am extremely picky about straightening. Take my word that this is a great product. Will never stray again.

I bought this from Target on 50% off a few days ago. I wanted to wait to try it under a few different circumstances before reviewing. First, I was impressed by how quickly it heats up. This is my first new straightener in over 10 years so I'm sure this technology has been around for a while, but it was really nice having it heat up to full power in less than 30 seconds. No more need to leave the straightener on to heat up, forgetting about it, and having a possible burn/fire hazard. The power light blinks while it's heating up and turns steady when it's fully heated.

The build quality is the most disappointing part. It's very light, and doesn't feel very substantial. It FEELS cheap. The plates also don't move as smoothly across the hair as other straighteners I've used.

In the last few days I've used it to touch up slept on hair, newly cut/styled hair, and also freshly washed/blow dried frizzy hair. It's done well on each.

For 50% off, I'm definitely keeping it. If I had paid full price I would have probably returned it and hoped to find something better. Even if it only lasts a couple of years, it's a good value.

HORRID!!!!!! It has a two year warranty that you have to pay 15.00 to ship it to them. It is less than a year old and is just frying my hair. Even when this did work, which wasn't for very long, it didn't work as good a job as cheap $30 straighteners i've had in the past. Chi has been extremely unhelpful so far. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY.

This flat iron has worked very well for me. I have very coarse curls and it takes a powerful flat iron to get my hair straight. I loveeee how fast it heats up. No more than 30 seconds and your ready to go. I like this flat iron very much. So Far So good.

I'm so disappointed in other reviewers trying to say this is a 'fake' CHI. CHI Air is a new line of light weight and slightly more affordable hair care products manufactured under the CHI Home, LLC company started by Farouk in 2009.

This is has been a wonderful product for me. The iron does not feel or remotely look cheap in any way. The glossy red finish is beautiful and the finish on my hair says it all. My hair is always soft, frizz free and very healthy after using this iron. I would absolutely buy another CHI Air product.

From CHI Home, LLC website:

CHI Home, A Division of Farouk Systems, Inc

Farouk Systems, Inc, best known for the invention of the CHI flat iron, is an innovative company that manufactures high quality hair care and spa products for the professional salon market. In 2009, Farouk Systems longed to expand these hair care technologies into other areas of the consumer market. They formed a new division under the name CHI Home, which has since integrated innovative technologies used in the development of the original CHI flat iron into daily household items. The use of elements such as Ceramic and Far Infrared reduce the amount of time associated with household tasks and help create a healthier lifestyle. These technologies can help reduce the need for chemical cleaning agents, reduce the amount of fats used in foods and reduce heat-styling damage to your hair. CHI Home is dedicated to creating superior products at an affordable price. Our current retail lines consist of home care, hair care, personal care and kitchenware.

i have had many a flat irons...expensive, cheap, 1in, 2in etc...and the CHI is the first one i have owned and loved. my hair has never been so soft after use. it heats up and cools down quickly. other flat irons i had to wait at least 30min before i could store it, but the CHI is cool enough to touch after 5 or so minutes. i will definitely buy another later on.

I purchased my CHI Expert at Target for $99.99. I have tried other straighteners, including regular CHI's, HSI, Remington, IN-Stylers, $20 brands, etc but have never owned one. I have straight very thick hair and recently got a new hair cut which causes my hair to slightly flip up/kink so I needed to purchase a straightener. We don't have any speciality stores in my town so I went for best one I could find at the local Target.

I don't know, I just wasn't that impressed, especially after rave reviews. Immediately when I opened the package and felt the straightener it was a let down. It just feels so light and not that good of quality, almost cheap and plasticity. But I still wanted to give it a chance. It takes a bit longer to heat up than other straighteners I have used, but this isn't that much of a concern for me.

When I used it I also was not that impressed. I had to go over pieces of hair several times before it straightened them and some pieces if didn't even really fully straighten. It somewhat works, but not good enough to warrant $100, or enough $60 in my opinion. To me it is similar quality to some $20 lesser known brand straighteners I have used.

I would not recommend this straightener and suggest that others try a cheaper one first or find a different, higher quality straightener. If it cannot even straighten mostly straight hair I do not even know how those with curly/wavy hair can get it to work. Not impressed.
