Goodbye humdrum. Hello, gorgeous!!

With the release of CHIC Made Simple, an all new cookbook written by food stylist, columnist and recipe developer Esther Deutsch, kosher food continues to blaze new trails, offering sophisticated, appealing recipes that are, (surprise, surprise!) both delicious and deceptively easy to prepare.

As a food editor at Ami Magazine, Mrs. Deutsch developed a loyal following with her MANNA column, which dazzled readers with recipes that were a cut above their usual fare, but didn't require endless hours in the kitchen. Fast forward to her debut cookbook CHIC Made Simple, a 384 page volume studded with over two hundred photographs that are so appealing you have be careful not to drool all over the pages.

CHIC Made Simple features over 185 recipes, some original and some reader favorites, with chapters devoted to Appetizers and Sides, Soups, Salads, Poultry, Meat, Fish, Dairy and Desserts. Creativity abounds here from Gefilte Fish Sushi to Balsamic Grilled Peaches with Basil-Pistachio Ice Cream on Cinnamon Skewers to an intriguing recipe for ice bowls, made out of empty half gallon and quart containers. --The Jewish Press

Just in time for Hanukah, the new cookbook CHIC MADE SIMPLE has arrived [...] Esther Deutsch, food editor for Ami magazine and super accomplished food stylist and recipe developer has launched new debut cookbook called CHIC MADE SIMPLE. It s chic looking, glossy, bright and beautiful with over 210 photos. The recipes are simple so the title is perfectly fitting. The author s theory is that food that looks irresistible will also taste as such. Her recipes are designed to look and taste like gourmet cuisine without the fuss. They are simple enough for the novice, fast enough for the busy cook, and impressive enough for the most accomplished.

The book features recipes like Clementine Glazed Chicken and Baby Arugula Salad with Balsamic Soy Vinaigrette (that sounds like it will be a GKC fav!), Sushi Gefilte Fish, and Striped Sesame Teriyaki Salmon (this looks like you catered it!). [...]

GKC is smitten with CHIC MADE SIMPLE. You will be too! --GourmetKosherCooking.com

Just purchased this book and was totally blown away. I have (almost) every kosher cookbook out there and this one surpasses them all by far. Here's why.
1) The photographs are breathtaking.
2) The recipes are clear and easy to follow.
3) Every recipe has a photo--which is vital for me. I'll never make a recipe without a photo.
4) I find many cookbooks have a few goodies and the rest is fillers. Here, I'm tempted to try every single one.
5) The book is also enjoyable to read, nice chatty style.

I'm sure cooks everywhere will enjoy. Fantastic buy.

This is a far more user-friendly and less pretentious cookbook than I first thought (it is a big book filled with beautifully styled photos). While there are lots of varied recipes, it is really set apart from other cookbooks by the very creative methods of presentations used in the gorgeous photos.

1) GREAT PRESENTATION IDEAS: The photos are beautiful, but their particular strength is that each showcases some sort of stunning presentation IDEA, rather than just offering a beautifully styled photo of the recipe that you could never re-produce. With pretty simple materials (nearly all serving dishes/utensils used are easy enough to find at Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn or the like), the photos show dozens of different ideas for presentation not just for that particular recipe but that would work for almost anything you might want to make. Someone looking for ways to make a Shabbat dinner, sheva brachot (post-nuptial meal), or any affair more elegant will find a hundred ways to ramp up the stylishness and elegance of your table without hiring an event planner or having to buy tons of expensive serving pieces.

2) STRAIGHT-FORWARD RECIPES: Most of the recipes are far less complicated than I initially expected. Many are "updates" (Yuppie updates?) of Ashkenazi classics, like gefilte fish sushi rolls. The ingredients used are easy to find (in other words, you won't have to spend days finding some specialty store that carries some ingredient that is hard enough to find without a heksher, let alone with!) and the recipes are easy to follow.

3) HUGE DESSERT SECTION: The dessert section is easily a quarter-to-a-third of the book, which--again--makes the cookbook really useful for someone looking for help planning elegant events.

I received a copy of this book as a gift and have enjoyed it tremendously. The coffee-table quality of the photographs make it a feast for the eyes before you ever prepare one recipe. Delicious salads, eye-pleasing preparations (try the gefilte fish sushi roll!), yummy main dishes and mouth-watering desserts all add up to a winning combination for this one. Nothing is difficult and the results will leave guests thinking you "patchke'ed" in the kitchen.

I was especially happy to see the use of coconut milk in a number of recipes where one used to find "parve whip" as a substitute for dairy milk. I thought this was one of my kitchen secrets but word seems to have gotten out. We entertain often and plan to put this one in regular rotation for straight-forward recipes that will impress without losing a day in the kitchen.

When I got this beautiful cook book as a gift, I was so excited to go through it. Which is just what I did right away.
Then the book sat...I was kind of intimidated by the pictures. I love to cook, and Love things to come out looking nice but Chic... I liked simple recipes.
Well as soon as I got over my "fear" I started making some new things.... The rest is history. There are some many different styles of foods to choose from, anyone can find something they LOVE and want to make from this beautifully put together book. It's now on my 'go to' list when looking for something new to try.

I would want to own this beautiful cookbook even if I didn't cook, just for its stunning pictures, and display-it-on-my-coffee-table quality construction, including thick glossy paper, full-color photos, and stunning cover.
But I do cook. A alot. For my family, and guests. And this book has many recipes that aren't the same-old same-old. Simple and easy to follow, many recipes can be made with stock pantry items and maybe one or two extras. I got this cookbook as a gift from an old friend, but I think I'll be buying many more copies to give away.

Bought this as a gift for my Mom on Mothers' Day; she's an incredible chef and enjoyed flipping through the recipes (making a few of them as well). Very well rounded, has meats, fishes, dairy, desserts etc... and is very chic!
