Customer Reviews

First, 250 cards isn't going to do you much for the CISSP.

The information is provided in an easy orderly fashion and makes sense as you tie the pieces together over the years of your working experience.
M. Stanhope
Other topics looked like they were translated by non-english speakers and seemed a little off.

I took the CISSP exam two weeks ago. I don't yet know if I passed, but if I did, it wont be because of these flash cards. For the most part, they are very poorly written. Some of the answers on the back of the card look like they were cut and pasted from questions where they were trying to explain why the wrong choices in a multiple choice question were not correct. But it was out of context because there were no multiple choice questions.

Other topics looked like they were translated by non-english speakers and seemed a little off.

On other cards, the answers were just plain wrong.

Some were just weird. Take the card for "Firmware" for example. Most techie types would think in terms of flash memory in a device like a router or a phone, etc., right? Well here's what the card said: "Firmware requires physical access that makes it difficult to tamper with. Hence it provides excellent security."

Well, geeze, thanks SSI Logic. That about sums up everything that a security professional studying for the CISSP would need to know about firmware, huh?

I could go on. Buy these for a laugh, but if you want to know what to study for the test, buy one of Eric Conrad's books.

There is a definite need for comprehensive CISSP flashcards. This product does not really meet that need very well. The quality of the materials is fine and the information all seemed to be correct. However, this entire set is very high level and represents a very, very small portion of the knowledge required to pass the test. These cards probably provided less than 10% of what I actually needed to know to pass the test (used other books, tools and resources also). That said, if you are buying many tools to support your effort and this is just one supplement, you may be ok/it could add value.

I used these in conjunction with multiple online practice exams (the best method to test your skills and learn how the test will work). The way I used the cards was to go through the first time and create 3 piles ("must review more", "already know topic", and "everything else - could review more later"). I them took the "must review more" pile and drilled them, and looked at other resources in those topic areas to drill deeper (the cards are very HIGH LEVEL, not very deep at all). They are not perfect, but certainly an added tool for effective study.

I'm 51 and I haven't worked in IA for a number of years. I didn't think I had a chance at passing the exam the first time. I took the boot camp, studied for 2 days, then took the exam and passed it!

The cards are a good way to study for the CISSP exam. Be aware that these are not made to last.

This is surely one way to study for the exam. Besides a study review course and a good study group flash cards are a great tool to help prep for the exam.

I am using this with other online tests and Shon Harris's books and video series to make sure I am ready for the CISSP exam. I have about 90 days until then.
These csrds really hone in on the important topics that other books and training aide I use are trying to show as important.

First, 250 cards isn't going to do you much for the CISSP. That may be enough to hit the high level topics or concepts, but that's stuff you should know without a lot of prompting for the test already. Flashcards are useful for detail memorization - and when it comes to memorizing all the details and definitions, you're going to need way more than 250 cards.

Second, the explanations aren't concise or clear, which is what you normally want in a flash card. It looks like they snipped out text directly from their book without a lot of editing, but if you're used to the Harris text, these explanations are far less clear.

Third, the printing quality (the justification on the back of the cards makes everything look odd) and copy editing are poor (several typos, and a few outright mistakes).

If these were $10? Then maybe I'd recommend them. But at their current price, I'd say spend your money on a couple of good books instead, and make your own cards. That's what I ended up doing, but I came up with closer to 800 cards. There are also several online card decks available for free that you can find via a quick search that I found more useful than this in my studies.

In the end, having passed the exam on my first try, I would say of all the resources I used, this product had the least value.
