5.0 out of 5 stars Best candy bar of a competing trio, August 11, 2008
This review is from: CLARK BAR 36 count (Misc.)
The Clark bar is one of a trio of competing buttercrisp candy bars, with the Nestle Butter finger and the Hershey's 5th Avenue being the other two competitors. The Clark bar was invented after the Butterfinger bar, but has always maintained a good amount of popularity in the face of competition.

To be fair to true chocolate aficionados, the Clark bar is not made with real chocolate. It is coated with compound chocolate, which is a blend of cocoa and vegetable oils. Nestle changed the chocolate coating on their Butterfinger bar a few years ago to this compound chocolate, and it completely ruined the flavor of the bar for many fans. Hershey's did the same thing with the 5th Avenue bar. As far as I know the Clark bar has never been made with "real" chocolate, but that apparently is not unusual in this modern day of cost-cutting.

At any rate, people who can appreciate buttercrisp candy bars will probably love the Clark bar. It strikes the right balance in the middle of what a Butterfinger and a 5th Avenue bar has to offer. Butterfinger bars are always way to crisp with the butter toffee middle filling, and it usually ends up with several shards of toffee being embedded in my gums and in between my teeth for a bit after eating. The 5th Avenue bar is nice, but the toffee is a bit too chewy for my tastes. The Clark bar seems to run right down the middle of perfection in this candy category. The toffee is a nice butter flavor which is the right level of crisp, supple, and has just the perfect tang of salt flavor in the middle to tantalize all of your taste buds. The "chocolate" coating on the outside adds sweetness and savoriness to the bar in proportion to the filling.

All together, the Clark bar is my favorite candy bar. I myself have only one or two places that sell the bar in my hometown, so internet ordering might be the only way to for lots of other people to get the ball at all. There are stores that have this item in stock at certain locations - Walgreens is one store that keeps the item as a stock number in their computer system. If you can ask the manager to order you a box of bars, he/she might agree to do that on the condition that you buy the whole box because it is not an item that they will have a spot for on their shelf.
