This review is from: CLEP General Exam (REA) -The Best Exam Review for the CLEP General (CLEP Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This review is for those of us who have little or no knowledge in the test subjects, but need to pass the Clep in a hurry.I used this book to pass the: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and History, and English Comp w/essay tests. I took all tests from May 2002 - July 2002 (computerized versions.) The clep tests are generalized tests. You need to know a little bit about a lot. The greatest strength of this book as well as it's companion book, The Best Test Preparation for Clep, it that it exposes the reader to a diverse area of knowledge that is likely to be on the test. While the actual questions on the real tests do not match the ones in any study book, the concepts do match. Learn enough general concepts, pass the tests! If you use this book, the companion book, Cracking the Clep, and the Comex series books for your review, you will be exposed to enough concepts and ideas to pass the test. If you have no prior knowledge (or little knowledge), you should use all four books. They cover slightly different areas. But together they give a good, well rounded exposure to test question criteria. I had no clue about Natural Sciences and Social Science and History before I started studying. I have been out of school for (A passing score is somewhere about the 61th percentile, which requires approximately only 50% of the questions to be answered correctly.) If you are clueless as I was, buy this book and the other three above. You should have no problem passing the tests.

This review is from: CLEP General Exam (REA) -The Best Exam Review for the CLEP General (CLEP Test Preparation) (Paperback)
This book started out great in the Math general exam area. But a third of the way through the Math section, the authors started making assumptions that I knew a lot of complex formulas and theories. It got to the point that I couldn't go on any further without referring to another book. I suspect that at some point another author was writing this part, because the book went from helpful to useless in one chapter. My advice since I have taken a couple of CLEPs is to take as many practice exams that you can. Time yourself like your were really taking the test. Then study the detailed answers of the questions you missed. This is by far the best way to pass these exams. It gets you familiar with the actual test and you are more relaxed. I recommend the ARCO book, Cracking the CLEP, Cliffs Notes Math Review for Standardized Tests, and any other up to date book that includes practice exams. The Cliffs Notes Math Review was the one book that helped me the most with the math exam.

Using this book with the companion book, "the best test preparation for CLEP" saved me sitting in the classroom for a whole semester. Provides sample tests, study tips, everything you need to be successful. Don't waste money on the other books; invest in these 2 only.

I bought this book and studied it for 3 days to take my CLEP in Biology. I took the tests and did well. I read the material, and I also reviewed "Cracking the CLEP"
When I went to take the actual CLEP, I found the questions on the test to be much harder than the ones in the books. Be that as it may, I passed the CLEP with a 65 out of 80, so I guess it got me through the test.

it was a good review book. it contains a lot of information to study but the questions were like quizzzes to see what you remember. it has no complete exam to time yourself with. i studied for the social science and history clep for two days and got a 55. so it did the job for me, if you study it longer you'll get a higher score (which is recommended).

Review questions have little similarity to test --,

I used this book along with the companion book which had 360 practice questions ( filled with errors). I studied long and hard with these materials and the actual test differed greatly. I would recommend using these books as a slim refresher only. They are NOT worth the money nor the time in study ( you will be studying VERY general theory). However, most REA subject test booklets are excellent! I dont know why this edition is lacking. If you are about to take the test I would recommend purchasing "Cracking The Clep" as a reference of what to study. College Textbooks, internet, Cliff Notes, all of which are better resources than the clep review. Good Luck!

Best purchase ever! I bought this to catch me up on math again. I took trig and calculus in high school, but that was 8 years ago and my math has faded. This book not only tells you the formulas, but it explains EVERYTHING! Even gives you sample problems. It's like a tutor in a book. You can even teach yourself on this to save yourself a class.

I was very satified with this purchase. It was instrumental in helping me prepare for both my Math and English placement exams.

I failed the clep exam of social science and history just using this book. I studied for 5 months before taking the exam. The questions you will see on the exam is totally different to the information of the book. I am a pretty good test taker and i have no education background of social science and history. I think this book just only can be the reference guide. If you want to pass the test choose another book.

The Scarlet Letter,
This review is from: CLEP General Exam (REA) -The Best Exam Review for the CLEP General (CLEP Test Preparation) (Paperback)
The life of an adulteress living in an unsympathetic Puritan community is displayed in this book. She is punished by being forced to wear a scarlet A on the bodice of her dress; however, she never really sees any wrong in the sin that she has committed. The A throughout the novel comes to have different meanings, due to the author's use of ambiguity. It is a great novel which opens your mind to new ways of receiving things. The novel allows for more than one interpretation on many of it's aspects.
