Clarifying Lotion 2 - 3 stars for newest formula, 5 stars for original formula,

This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
It is hard to tell which Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 formula comments are being made on. There are 3 formulations and most of the Counter reps are not even aware of this.
Original Formula INGREDIENTS: ALCOHOL DENAT., WATER\AQUA\EAU, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), GLYCERIN, MENTHOL, SODIUM BORATE, EXT. VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), RED 33 (CI 17200), RED 6 (CI 15850), [ILN29288] Clinique, please bring back this formula. It gently exfoliates, minimizes pores and firms and moisturizes the skin. Denatured Alcohol is very gentle and not the same as rubbing alcohol. It does not dry the skin as so many want to believe. It also was a very clean smell and feel and I don't need to use a moisturizer. Doubt if there is any of this formula left on store shelves or in back stock. I bought all they had at stores in my area back in Oct 2009. I still have 5 large bottles. Reformulated late summer/early fall 2009, never announced INGREDIENTS: WATER\AQUA\EAU, ALCOHOL DENAT., HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), GLYCERIN, MENTHOL, SODIUM BICARBONATE, EXT. VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), RED 33 (CI 17200), RED 6 (CI 15850), [ILN29288] This was horrible. Clogged pores, caused acne. There was more water than denatured alcohol. Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) replaced sodium borate. And the overwhelming smell of Witch Hazel was very, very unpleasant. There is still plenty of this formula left on store shelves. Make sure you read the ingredients before buying. Clinique, please bring back the original formula. Reformulated late 2010/early 2011 with magazine advertisements regarding new formulas INGREDIENTS: WATER\AQUA\EAU, ALCOHOL DENAT., GLYCERIN, SALICYLIC ACID, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), MENTHOL, TREHALOSE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, DISODIUM EDTA, BHT, PHENOXYETHANOL, BENZOPHENONE-4, RED 6 (CI 15850), RED 33 (CI 17200), VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), [ILN37004] This new formula is drying most likely due to the Salicylic Acids, doesn't exfoliate, minimize pores and firm skin as well. It does have the smell of the original formula for the most part. Clinique, please bring back the original formula.

too harsh!,
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
They advertise this for normal/combination skin. But I think its for more rugged skin! Mine couldnt handle it. After a month of using it with the mild clinique soap, and the dramatically different lotion, my forehead was broken out, a complete mess!
I thought I had somewhat normal skin, but after using this, I realize I have sensitive skin. The product burned and turned my skin red. Luckily I realized that Clinique made gentler versions. I bought the EXTRA-mild soap and the clairifying lotion #1 (while still using the moisturizer). And now my skin is finally healing, and starting to look great! If you are new to the 3-step system, I recommend starting out on the mildest versions. And work your way up if you need something stronger. I love Clinique, but the #2 clairifying toner was way too harsh.

I recently bought this after reading the reviews on sephora ratings and reviews. Please look at that before you decide not to get it. It works great. My skin got smoother almost overnight. I started off using it 2x a day but my skin got dry. I did some research and I see most people only use it once a day so thats what I do now. I love this stuff and I have seen results very quickly.http://reviews.sephora.com/8723/S15120/category.htm?sortOrder=numReviewsDesc
