I recently bought this after reading the reviews on sephora ratings and reviews. Please look at that before you decide not to get it. It works great. My skin got smoother almost overnight. I started off using it 2x a day but my skin got dry. I did some research and I see most people only use it once a day so thats what I do now. I love this stuff and I have seen results...

3.0 out of 5 stars Clarifying Lotion 2 - 3 stars for newest formula, 5 stars for original formula, March 28, 2011
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
It is hard to tell which Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 formula comments are being made on. There are 3 formulations and most of the Counter reps are not even aware of this.

Original Formula
INGREDIENTS: ALCOHOL DENAT., WATER\AQUA\EAU, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), GLYCERIN, MENTHOL, SODIUM BORATE, EXT. VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), RED 33 (CI 17200), RED 6 (CI 15850), [ILN29288]

Clinique, please bring back this formula. It gently exfoliates, minimizes pores and firms and moisturizes the skin. Denatured Alcohol is very gentle and not the same as rubbing alcohol. It does not dry the skin as so many want to believe. It also was a very clean smell and feel and I don't need to use a moisturizer. Doubt if there is any of this formula left on store shelves or in back stock. I bought all they had at stores in my area back in Oct 2009. I still have 5 large bottles.

Reformulated late summer/early fall 2009, never announced
INGREDIENTS: WATER\AQUA\EAU, ALCOHOL DENAT., HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), GLYCERIN, MENTHOL, SODIUM BICARBONATE, EXT. VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), RED 33 (CI 17200), RED 6 (CI 15850), [ILN29288]

This was horrible. Clogged pores, caused acne. There was more water than denatured alcohol. Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) replaced sodium borate. And the overwhelming smell of Witch Hazel was very, very unpleasant. There is still plenty of this formula left on store shelves. Make sure you read the ingredients before buying. Clinique, please bring back the original formula.

Reformulated late 2010/early 2011 with magazine advertisements regarding new formulas
INGREDIENTS: WATER\AQUA\EAU, ALCOHOL DENAT., GLYCERIN, SALICYLIC ACID, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL), MENTHOL, TREHALOSE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, DISODIUM EDTA, BHT, PHENOXYETHANOL, BENZOPHENONE-4, RED 6 (CI 15850), RED 33 (CI 17200), VIOLET 2 (CI 60730), [ILN37004]

This new formula is drying most likely due to the Salicylic Acids, doesn't exfoliate, minimize pores and firm skin as well. It does have the smell of the original formula for the most part. Clinique, please bring back the original formula.

1.0 out of 5 stars too harsh!, November 28, 2005
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
They advertise this for normal/combination skin. But I think its for more rugged skin! Mine couldnt handle it. After a month of using it with the mild clinique soap, and the dramatically different lotion, my forehead was broken out, a complete mess!
I thought I had somewhat normal skin, but after using this, I realize I have sensitive skin. The product burned and turned my skin red.

Luckily I realized that Clinique made gentler versions. I bought the EXTRA-mild soap and the clairifying lotion #1 (while still using the moisturizer). And now my skin is finally healing, and starting to look great!

If you are new to the 3-step system, I recommend starting out on the mildest versions. And work your way up if you need something stronger. I love Clinique, but the #2 clairifying toner was way too harsh.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hate it !!!, March 25, 2011
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
This is such a disappointment, first of, it contains alcohol which is too harsh for my sensitive skin, it absolutely dried my skin and made it look horrible. I hate it, it does harm more than good, now I am working on fixing what this product has caused.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it!, February 3, 2011
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ is the best "toner" I've tried. Very gentle on my skin (which tends to be sensitive). Face FEELS super clean, cool, refreshed, without the burn of alcohol; face LOOKS smoother with some (not all) smaller pores. Bought it at Clinique counter at Macy's for $21.

1.0 out of 5 stars Far too harsh..., November 29, 2010
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
I've always had good skin. Never oily, not acne prone, not overly sensitive, or any other common skin problems. I had always just used drugstore skin care products, and never had any problems with them. But one day, I went to the mall and happened to look around at the Clinique skin care system. After doing the "skin type survey", the salesgirl ended up talking me into buying the entire 3-step system (mild facial soap, clarifying lotion 2, and moisturizing gel). I was concerned about using the clarifying lotion because of it's high alcohol content (that much alcohol CAN'T be good for your face), but I was assured with "oh, it's a COSMETIC alcohol, so it's non-drying". I thought I would give it a try, it seemed to be popular enough...

Within a month my skin was very oily, red, and my forehead was COVERED in bumps. I didn't know what was going on! I had never had problems before, and if I did break out they were never on my forehead. I went and saw a dermatologist, and they asked me what I had been using for my skin care regimen. Low and behold, she told me to NEVER put alcohol-based products on my skin, as it completely sucks all of the needed moisture out, and therefore your skin excretes oil to try and make up for all of the moisture that it's losing. I immediately stopped using the entire Clinique line, and have since switched to Dermalogica (more money but MUCH better for your skin).

If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to steer clear of all products containing harsh ingredients such as alcohol, menthol, and artificial color. My skin is back to normal now, but it took a LOT of time, not to mention a prescription to fix the damage that this product caused my skin. I would only recommend this product to someone who has skin made of steel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it once in a while, November 13, 2010
This review is from: CLINIQUE by Clinique Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 --/13.4OZ (Health and Beauty)
Even thought I am a huge supporter of organic and natural products, I still remain a big fan of this toner. It has lots of alcohol in it and for a very strange reason I like it. It's a bit drying but it seems to be the only thing that keeps my skin in control before my periods as my skin gets oilier and starts to break out. "Dehydrating " it with this toner is the only thing that helps to keep it somewhat clear. As for moisturizers and such I prefer to stick to natural and organic products.

I've been using this product for years and like it. But, what's up with the price here on Amazon? The price anywhere else for this product in this size is about $20.

Couple friends swear by this toner so I tried it. It is really nice, other ones left my face feeling oily but this one leaves me feeling clean. Better price than dept stores
