5.0 out of 5 stars 5 creepy clown stars July 26, 2014
By Jenna
Format:Kindle Edition
There was only one good thing that come from having a Pepsi at 7:00 at night (which caused yourself and your baby girl to not sleep until past 1:00 due to caffeine, which I rarely drink) was finishing this book. I am a bit tired at the moment so please forgive misspellings and grammar issues which, more than likely, would be there anyways. :)

I received this book from the author in advance for a completely honest review and that is just what he is going to get.

I have read numerous Matt Shaw books. This one came across to me as being different than all the others I have read. That is not a bad thing mind you. I love each and every Matt Shaw book and this one was no different.

What do YOU see what you look at your reflection in a mirror?

"I was still wearing the white powder upon my face. I rarely took that off. I don't like the face underneath. I don't like the person underneath. I find him hard to control. I find him hard to talk to. I find him hard to keep quiet. The makeup I wear keeps him hidden. The makeup keeps him at bay and that's the way I like him."

I admit, my heart hurt for this clown. He was dealt an awful crappy hand of cards in his early life. His parents divorced when he was young and most of the time he lived with his father- "A stern man who liked a drink. His demons mostly came at night where he then found the need to taken them out on me. By morning he'd always come into my cramped bedroom apologizing- and hungover- but I could never trust him, I could never taken him at his word."

The clown simply wanted to make children smile. Unfortunately his close friend has a strong hold over him and thinks "children should be seen and and not heard.

Clown is the traumatic and brutal trip into the disturbed mind of a man fighting against the onslaught of a mental disorder that pits good against evil, and as evil becomes more and more prevalent the tension rises to some heart stopping moments.

By day he’s mostly the entertainer, working the kids parties and the Park to drum up business, polite, funny, wouldn’t say Boo to a goose it seems. He leaves his makeup on to keep away the evil one but it’s not working anymore, in fact it’s taking over, he’s losing control and when he learns what’s been going on when he’s not in control.
It can only end one way, somebodies going to hell.

The dialogue is handled really well, it’s mainly pretty obvious which persona is talking and this leads to some great opportunities to mix it up, cracking story I couldn’t stop reading the second half as our protagonists situation escalates to the extreme.

Matt Shaw is fast turning into my discovery of the year and I’ve got a hell of a lot to catch up on, the writing is disturbing but not in too much of a vulgar way, it’s cleverly written, hiding behind some breathtaking moments and I’m loving it.

Clown was given to me by the author as a Beta read for an honest review, it’s now available to buy and I recommend you get it, my thanks for the opportunity and I look forward to reading more of Matt Shaw’s work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clowns...good or evil? July 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Another great job by Matt Shaw. He never ceases to amaze me. I have read several of his books and his writing is unique and diverse.

CLOWN...good clown vs. evil clown. This clown enjoys entertaining children at their birthday parties and such. He likes to see them smile and laugh. When he goes home it is a different story. He fights with the evil clown, the one that wants to do bad things, disturbing things.

It was interesting reading this book, being in the mind of the clown, hearing the arguments that ensued. Seeing which one was becoming stronger, and in the end...oh the end!

I haven't read a story quite like this. It was a good change. I highly recommend it if you are into extreme, gory, or disturbing.

This book was given to me by Matt Shaw as a beta read for my thoughts and an honest review. Thank you, Matt, for the opportunity. I think this was a great idea that turned into an amazing read. Matt is a very talented writer with an excellent imagination.

5 stars, yes!! I will continue reading Matt's work. Well done, keep up the good work.

I had the pleasure of being able to beta read a copy of CLOWN and I would just like to say first of all, Thank you to Matt Shaw for the opportunity.

I'm quickly becoming an huge fan of Matt's work and even more so now after reading CLOWN. What a great read this turned out to be. Clowns are creepy on their own but the way this tale is spun adds a unique twist that makes it all the more disturbing.

CLOWN takes you on a journey inside the mind of a lonely, neglected and tormented individual. An individual who spends his days entertaining children and hiding behind the persona of a clown. It's a psychological tale of torment, instability and horror that develops like a slowly ticking time bomb and concludes with an explosion of a twist at the end.

Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars He's not clowning around. July 26, 2014
By Bugaboo
Format:Kindle Edition
I should state, this isn't Matt Shaw's typical tale. The gore factor isn't as prevalent......although, in my humble opinion the plot itself is as horrific as it gets.

CLOWN is the tale of a somewhat lonely man who loves his job as a performing clown. The plot starts off rather somber but once Matt's bag of tricks is REALLY opened you will not be able to put the book down.... and I will not be able to tell you anything further without spoiling the experience for everyone.

One more thing. For everyone who's afraid of clowns, trust me when I say you'll be hoping this clown hangs around.

Thank you Matt Shaw for giving me the opportunity to beta read Clown. I truly enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not something for everyone
It's depressingly dark, sad, and gory. Though it might not be for everyone, I can say that it was unique and worth a read.
