CMS products should stand for Can't Make it Simpler. The CMS data transfer kit was a breeze. If you bought this kit with a hard drive, just slip the new drive in the case, plug it in and you're good to go. Just make sure to plan an activity while its copying. At first I didn't think it would copy everything, meaning flies, folders and operating system. But it did, you don't have to enter new key numbers. Ron Popeele should advertise this, just set and forget it. After the copying is done and you install the new hard drive in the computer, you can put the old hard drive in the case and use that as a back up system. CMS get the job done.

If there are hidden partitions on your hard drive, there are additional steps to take prior to starting the data transfer process with the BounceBack software.Go to and retrieve the instruction on "Setting Drive Letter for Windows 7 Hidden Partition." After completting those steps, then follow the instructions in the QuickStart Guide. Otherwise upon completion of the cloning process your drive will not be bootable. It would be nice if the manufacturer included a note with the Data Transfer Kit or display it prominently on their web-site to indicate these extra steps. After several failures and having to peek around that I discovered the TechNote in the CMSproducts site.

Good product but received wrong one,

This review is from: CMS Data Transfer Kit For Notebook Hard Drives DTK-25U2 (Silver/Grey) (Personal Computers)
The product described is the CMS Data Transfer Kis DTK-25U2. I received the packed and it says that it is the DTK-25U2 unit. The DTK-25U2 unit is suppose to support SATA/PATA but this one only supported SATA. I went to the products website and the DTK-25U2 has been discountinued since 9/29/10. Looking more into the website I came across the Data Transfer Kit for SATA Notebook Drives DTK-25S2 which is new for $29.95.([...]) What this product described is exactly what I received from Amazon. So I am not sure where the mistake in packaging is coming from but if you need the PATA connection you might want to look somewhere else. So buyer beware. As for the just the SATA Data Transfer Kit I only used the case which is pretty sturdy. Luckily I got this product free as a promotion and didn't lose out. Hope this helps out some of you.

I bought this product to upgrade the hard drive in an older laptop, specifically because the product listing said that it was compatible with both SATA and PATA drives. When I got it in and opened it, I found that is was SATA only. Because of that, this kit is completely useless to me.

This transfer kit is "Not PATA Compatible". Although advertised as SATA/PATA Compatible it does not provide an accurate description of compatibility and is NOT FOR PATA/IDE hard drives. I can not use it for transferring data to and from my PATA hard drives. This transfer kit "CAN NOT ACCEPT BOTH Kinds of Drives" as described. The enclosure "WILL ONLY ACCEPT the SATA Drive". Maybe I can pass this piece of equipment on to someone who can use it for their sata hard drive.

I bought this planning to transfer my laptop HD contents to a new HD. After several days (as each attempt takes roughly four or five hours) and different methods, I realized the software is FULLY WORTHLESS.The tool would claim my HD was transferred but upon installing and turning the computer on nothing would boot outside of the stupid BounceBack Application. This is something you should totally avoid, the description doesn't even match the product. Seriously, read the other reviews. And the company has that "guy in a garage" feel to it. I do NOT trust them with my files and such. Don't believe me? Just look at the website: [...]. Does it look well made? Take a look at the horrible customer support section. The only thing that worked was the HD enclosure. I had to download software from Seagate to transfer my data. It worked on the first try and took only two hours. I just don't see the point in buying this. If you need an enclosure you might as buy a different one that could potentially come with working software. This one does NOT.

I can only rate and describe my experience with one Lenovo Y560. I have experience with 3 transfer/cloning programs. The CMS kit is, in my opinion, by far the best program of the lot. CMS is not the fastest but thats a good thing because the extra time is used for checking. It took me under two hours to move 46Gb of info from hard drive to hard drive. I was very impressed with the quality of the program. Bottom line--in my opinion, this is the best way to transfer one hard drive to another, it works well.CliffordS

All I can say is that this software was exactly as described! Worked Great and was easy to use! I would highly recommend it. I received the software and my new hard drive on a Monday... plugged in the new hard drive in to the case... dropped in the cd... selected the "new" drive... pressed go... it started copying my current data onto the new drive. The next morning it said it was done... plugged in the new drive into my laptop... and it worked flawlessly! If you are running out of hard drive space and have even a modest knowledge and interest in doing it yourself... this is really easy to use and works!

Product received is totally different to what is describe by the CMS ad.The ad says the unit is compatible to both SATA and PATA interface .Instead I was sent a SATA unit only.I cannot use this unit so has to send it back at my cost and I am waiting for the refund.I do not think I will reorder as there is no way of knowing which unit I will receive.

I bought this device to clone my wife's C drive hard disk on her Fuji N6410 notebook computer, which uses a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive. Well, the hard disk would not fit into the CMS Transfer Device. The manufacture gave no information about which drives would and would not fit in their device. Well, I needed the drive backed up so I did so without using the metal containment case. The backup time was very slow and at least one system file was left out. I had to replace the file from the original windows disk. I would not buy from this manufacture again. I since have bought another backup device and am using more reliable software which clones on startup instead of trying to do it through windows, so no files are left out. Be careful in buying transfer kits. I am an Amazon Prime Buyer and have been buying stuff almost exclusively from Amazon for many years. This is the first problem I have ever had with a purchase.
