Excellent cutting results and enhanced productivity.

From the Manufacturer

Our new high performance solid carbide spirals are engineered for faster feed rates and long cutting life. New super micrograin carbide formula offers extremely sharp and longer lasting cutting edges. Low helical grind shears material with more efficient chip ejection. The tool works less, runs cooler and out performs the competition. Our new precision machinery was designed and built to CMT spec's. We now manufacture solid carbide spirals with the tightest tolerances in the industry. You won't find a better performance in tooling.

I do a lot of woodworking, some for pleasure, some for business. After about a year of using old and inferior bits (hand me downs from my Dad) I broke down and bought a handful of these bits when they were on sale for $10 thinking that they'd last a little while and for the price I could just toss them... how wrong I was. Not only do they produce the best cuts in all wood types (soft, hard, and composites) they last way longer then I ever expected, in fact I still have the first one I bought well over two and a half years ago and it still cuts great (remember to keep your bits properly maintained!).

Now the nice thing specific to this bit is that it's an upcut spiral so it directed the chips up and out of the material you are routing. For me, I have my router mounted in a table, so with this bit the chips are directed downward thus keeping my work top/table practically chip free.

Just from the fantastic experience I had from this one CMT bit I have since purchased several hundred dollars worth of CMT bits and not a single one has disappointed.

Thousands of feet worth of material cut/shaped and counting...

I own a variety of router bits from different mfrs: Whiteside, Freud, Porter-Cable, MCLS and CMT.
Whenever I need to use one of the CMT bits, the cut always feels smoother and the cut seems cleaner than when I use the other makers bits. I have no empirical data to support this, it is just my experience. They are a pleasure to use.

This up-cut spiral bit is an excellent choice for many router jobs. Will definetly save wear & tear on basic straight cut router bits! This bit does not leave as smooth an edge as a basic bit, but when you need to make deep cuts, spiral bits are the only way to go. This bit cuts fast and agressivley! I have not noticed any chatter or jumping with this bit, very smooth! I've used mine mainly for cutting out the holes for speaker projects, with the use of a jasper jig! Use this bit on MDF and it cuts through like butter! Would not recommend using on veneer plywoods as it would tend to chip the veneer! A compression or downward spiral bit would work well on veneer's! Very Pleased with the performance of this bit!

I own around 4 of these bits, primarily as backups. I use it on a large 4x8 CNC bed and this bit (1/4" diameter, amazon gets confused) and it is my goto bit for cutting profiles from plastic and wood.

I have had one break, but mostly that is because the shank is not firmly in the collet. The shank length is a little short, so I can see it being possible to not have it tightened securely. Combine that with a feed rate that is a little too fast and you increase the chance for breakage.

The folks at CMT our very helpful too. If you ever need advice on speed and feed, they can help you out in a jiffy.

I have used it to cut:
MDF
HDPE
Lexan
PVC
Poplar
Red Oak

The CMT 191.008.11 Upcut Spiral Bit is 1/4" in diameter not 3/16" as described. The correct number for a 3/16" bit is 191.005.11.

I purchased three of these to cut full thickness profiles in 3/4 CDX on a Shop Bot 4x4 CNC router.
With a 14k RPM spindle speed, the bits made quick work of the job at a 1 in/sec feed rate. Had I not piloted one into a screw, I would have completed the entire 60 sheet job with two bits instead of the three that it ended up taking.

Also, as the product description makes no mention of it, I will add that this bit plunges like a champ.

After breaking four (4) Freud bits doing the same kind of work, I will be buying less of those and more of these CMT's.

Perfect. I've been using this bit for a couple weeks now, and it has not let me down in any way. I bought this to replace a lesser brand that broke on me when I was trying to do some long mortises with a straight bit. This one cust clean and perfect holes. Becuase it's an upspiral, it doesn't leave any chips or dust in the hole. No tearout on the exit side either. Whether doing mortises or dados, you can't go wrong with this bit. Don't be tempted to go with a cheap no name brand here, with a bit this small it's easy for the bit to break. This one hasn't let me down.

I'm a novice CNC machinist and this was my first bit. It stays sharp after cutting wood and acrylic for days on end. I still haven't dulled it enough to need sharpening yet. It's kinda cool because the bit has this high tolerance that lets you calibrate your machine around it. You can square your spindle using the bottom of the bit. Use the bit to adjust the y gantry, etc. I'm guessing it's laser cut so maybe that's why it's accuracy allows for more than the cnc machine. Also it's straight. I cut down into 12mm acrylic with no runout and straight lines.
