That's why we've added a new selection of Chisel and Bit sets in all the popular sizes, from 1/4" to 34" diameter. These sets are for use in any standard drill press mortising attachment of mortising machine. Shank size : 3/4-Inch

I am writing this review to counter the idiot that gave the chisel set one star. CMT makes very high quality products and at a good value. This is no different. Very sharpe and the bit is centered perfectly.

Any woodworker with a lick of sense should know that there are TWO main sizes of shafts. 5/8 and 3/4 inch. The better machines have bushings of both sizes so you can use either size. The cheaper Taiwan machines like many Jet and Delta have only 5/8 and no bushing. Powermatics have the bushing. Most of the kits to convert a drill press are 5/8". BUT do not go by what I say: Measure your own machine. It takes FIVE SECONDS.

I really am amazed about the number of worthless Amazon reviewers. They complain about everything but never review the product, such as the Box came damaged or Ups was slow. Sue those are real issues, but that is not a product review.

In this case, the prior reviewer claims to be a woodworker, but does not know the spindle size on his machine. He never used the item but gives it a one star. Yet he claims its well made.

I teach woodworking and many tools get a bad rap because of user error. mortising machines are often misused. the chisel and bit must be carefully set and you must go slow. once overheated, the bit and chisel can be ruined.

The bit performed as expected. I was able complete my project with no problem. I have already recommended this to another person.

I am a long time amateur woodworker. I'm slowly replacing the cheap tools that I purchased or received as gifts before I knew any better.
I received this bit and chisel as a Christmas present last year and just tried it out today. I expected the gift giver to go to Woodcraft, like I suggested, and not order the cheapest bit available online. Luckily I used it on a practice piece before cutting the real thing.
The the center channel on the chisel is either too large allowing too much play on the bit, or the channel is off center. On every mortise I cut, I got a small arc cut outside of the flat edge of the hole.
Tear-out was bad, even with a sacrificial board underneath to prevent this, which tells me the chisel was not very sharp.

despite it claims it DID NOT FIT MY JET dedicated mortiser. The max. shank sixe is 1/2", they need a turned down shank (not 5/8") for the cjisel and drill to fit. Construction and sharpness however seemed to be excellent as CMT usually is.
