This is a great switch at a great price. Most 5-port switches cost twice as much or do not fully support v.1.3 - a standard which Blu-Ray and some games consoles require to work properly. I have seen some where Blu Ray or PS3 will only work on one port. I have successfully tested my own PS3 on all ports.

Some do not auto-switch, and this alone is worth the asking price. I have mine set up without having to use the included remote. I simply have my Harmony universal remote switch each device off before switching on the one I want to use. The switch automatically finds the active port and moves to it. If you have a DVR or other device that is required to be "always-on", simply put it on port 5 - this way, if another port becomes active, it will prioritize a lower numbered one.

I should mention that the product page still claims to ship a mains adapter with this unit, which is supposed to enable the auto-switching functions. The mains adapter is not included anymore, but since auto-switching now works without it anyway, it is not required.

Something else to mention. The unit is about the size of a pack of playing cards. This is good since it is meant to be hidden away. Included is a remote receiver connected with a short cable which you can position in a place to receive commands from the included remote, keeping the main unit out of sight. Since you can use the switch without the remote, you can get by quite easily without hooking this up also.

Switching between two sources on this switch takes about a second, whether using auto-switch or the remote. While I'm sure there are some that are faster, I do not think this worth paying extra for. You may disagree.

There is a manual toggle switch on the top of the main unit.

We used it to split the signal coming out of the receiver to go to two TVs. One is a 56" Plasma and the other is a 19" LCD. I test it and did have one TV on at a time. BTW, I'm using a 45ft HDMI cable coming out of this splitter to a HDMI switchbox before reaching the 19" LCD. I'm also using another one of these units to split the signal from my Mediagate media server to the two TVs with no problem. I also tested it out by watching HD channels from the cable box and 1080p videos through my media center.

I just received this unit and am using it to split the single HDMI output from my Cable box to two TV's, one a newer Vizio LCD and the other an older 65" Mitsubishi rear projection with a DVI port. The connection to the Visio is via a 25' HDMI cable, while the connection to the Mitsubishi is via a 10' HDMI to DVI adapter cable.
Contrary to one of the other reviews, only one TV needs to be on at any time for the unit to work. Does a great job with no loss of picture or sound quality, even through the longer HDMI cable and the HDMI to DVI adapter cable.

This cheap and tiny hdmi switch works great. It looks flimsy and cheap, and came packaged in a bag of plastic... but it works very good.

Did not have to use the power adapter to make it work. Just plugged the hdmi cables and when I power on a device the switch activates and makes the autoswitching between the devices.

The IR controller also works without the power adapter.

I just got my splitter in. I use it to split the signal from my PS3 to a 24 inch LCD Monitor and a 42 inch LCD TV and it works great. I use one 6 ft and one 11 ft HDMI cable and there is no noticeable degradation of signal. Price is great compared to similar products and the small size of the box means less clutter.

Here's a trick to get this device to work without having both TV's on.
1) Connect both TV's to the HDMI Splitter
2) Connect the input source
3) Plug the device into a power outlet
4) Turn on both TV's
5) Unplug the HDMI splitter from the power
6) Wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
7) You should now be able to watch one TV without the other being on.

Try turning one off. The other should still be working. And then try turning that one off, and the other TV on. It should be working flawlessly.

This worked for me. If this doesn't work for you, try a variation of the above steps. It has to do with the TV or the switch recognizing the signals. I don't know, but this is how I got mine to work.

Whenever there are power surges or outages, I have to re-do the above. I'm buying a UPS for this thing (and for my DVR).

This splitter only works if (1) it is connected to two output devices, (2) both output devices are turned on, and (3) both output devices have their input selected to the HDMI splitter. If you connect it to only one output device, it does not work. If you connect it to two output devices and one of them is turned off, it does not work. If either of the output devices can switch among multiple inputs, it must be set to the HDMI splitter.

I first set this device up with one output. It didn't work. Then I set it up with two outputs, and it worked. One of the outputs was a TV. As soon as I switched that TV away from the HDMI, to my DVR or antenna, the HDMI splitter stopped working. When I changed that TV input back to HDMI, the device worked, but only if I powered all devices off and on.

This is definitely an el cheapo splitter, at the bottom of the price range for HDMI splitters (about $20). I didn't ask for a replacement. If the first one doesn't work and it's a cheap model, then they are probably all made cheaply, so even if the replacement works, it might not work for long. Many of the reviews on Amazon for these inexpensive splitters said that even if they work at first, sometimes they burn out after a few months. I'm going to try one of the more expensive splitters.

Warning: You will see lot of the inexpensive splitters available through Amazon, but they are all really just two models, each from multiple sellers. Look at the pictures, you will see which ones are the same model.

Suggestion: Try to use Amazon Prime when buying. I know that sometimes Amazon Prime is more expensive than the same model without Amazon Prime, but from all of the comments on all of these splitters, it's apparent that you can easily get a defective unit. With Amazon Prime, they will always take it back and they will pay for return shipping.
