i was very happy when i got it being that most other wifi adapters cost twice this much. it worked right after i installed the drivers from the cd that came in the box. after 2 or 3 days it just stopped working. this is more likely a software issue than the hardware because it was solved with a system restore. but behold the next day when it wouldn't connect. i did...

5.0 out of 5 stars Really satisfied, August 30, 2008

Yap, I am really satisfied with this Wifi-Stick. The coverage with it is really well and it works flawlessly with WinXP & 2000, while you can either use the Windows Wifi-Managing-Software or install the custom CNET one. (Again I tried both, works both nice, though I go for the Windows-included software since I don't need the CNET-Stuff...)
The only downside I see is that it's a little bigger than other sticks I've seen, but I don't really care about that, since they're used for kind of stational laptops ;-)...
Full recommendation, especially at that price!

There will be a percentage of products that any MFG makes that will go bad. There will never be a perfect product. When this wireless USB adapter arrived, I did not yet have a need for it, so I tested it for a few weeks, everything seemed fine: signal strength, driver, reception. Recently, I have hooked it up again, and using the same router, but in a different house, and it causes the computer to "freeze" (windows 95 style). I have used the computer for years without trouble, and without the wireless adapter, it works fine. I even use it as a test bench for other computers, so I've run hardware scans and all hardware work. I have even reinstalled Windows XP, just to be sure nothing else is going on with the computer, no effect or change.

When this wireless adapter warms up, it seems to just freeze the computer. I am now blowing a Vornado fan on it, just to keep it cool, and this seems to prolong the wait, but it will still crash the computer. I have the most recent driver from the MFG website, updates on windows update, and I've tried the driver located on the CD as well. Without a fan, it can crash in as little as half an hour, but usually it will crash before 3 hours is up. The next thing I will try is disassemble it and try to apply a heat sink to whatever heats up the most. This should be an unnecessary effort, and I would not recommend this product to save some cash. Linksys, D-Link, Belkin, and Netgear products also warm up in use, but in my experience as a technician and salesperson for a major big box electronics store, I will spend a couple extra dollars next time and get one of those on sale.

Fixing up an old laptop for a friend. No wireless capability. Ordered one of these due to the price being not too high.
Had no problems installing it and it worked right off the bat. She is thrilled with her "new" computer and the CNET wireless adapter.
Also I love the extra joint extension that comes with it. It allows you to rotate the adapter to different angles if there are space issues.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gives good connection when it stays connected, January 22, 2009

I have had this product for a few months and when I am on the computer and the connection is good, I am happy. Apparently when I am away during the day, the connection is constantly going down and the adapter gets really hot. I sometimes have to unplug and replug to get the connection back up.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've bought two, January 16, 2009
This review is from: CNET CNTCWD-854 Wireless-G USB Adapter (Personal Computers)
I purchased my first one about 9 months ago and have had no problems with it. When I got another computer last week I made sure to get the exact same wireless adapter and I was not disappointed. Very easy installation, especially with Vista. Picks up the signal well. Once it's installed, you won't ever have to worry about it again. Definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good wireless adapter, October 19, 2008

It works well and is easy to install. Windows XP sometimes doesn't recognize the device after startup unless it's unplugged and then replugged again; but I think this is a problem more with Windows than with the device or the software that comes with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked for only a few hours..., January 3, 2009

I purchased this product for use with my desktop computer (which does not include a wireless card, obviously).

It worked for a couple of hours, as advertised. But it stopped working after the first time the computer was turned off/restarted. The computer would recognize the USB adapter as being plugged in, but the adapter itself refused to recognize any wireless networks in range.

Uninstall and re-install did nothing.

Quick-install instructions are adequate, but the user guide and included software are in broken English and full of typos. The product looks cheap, feels cheap, and was unreliable. Returned for a full refund.

Very disappointed.
