Product worked as good as any dial up modem I guess. After 2 weeks returned it due to no longer working. I only list this encase this becomes a trend. Power surges are common failure point in modems.

For those less fortunate people that still have limited Internet choices, this modem might be for you. The CNet modem I received uses the Motorola chipset (common, but a good 56k chipset). Installing the card into the computer only took a few seconds. The software driver seemed to be a bit sensitive in the sequence of installation. For me, the driver partially installed the modem a couple of times before getting it completely installed. Each time it partially installed, I had to go into Control Panel -> Modems to remove the device and then reboot. Based on my experience, I would say there might be a slight chance others may encounter the same minor problem getting the drivers to install under Windows XP. This is the only reason I'm giving the modem a 4 star rating and not a 5 star.
Once install, I was able to get between 33.6K and 50.6K every time I connected. This might not seem like high numbers, but the phone line has a bit of static that will impede even the best of modems from obtaining the 56k speed. Having just installed the modem, I cannot comment of long-term reliability. But I can say the last modem I bought was nearly $30.00 at a local Radio Shack and it lasted only a week before dying. I've made it over a week with this CNet modem. Meaning, this $8.00 modem has surpassed at least one more of its more expensive competitors.
