Mr. House has once again written an excellent reference piece on air guns. This time he has focused on CO-2 pistols and rifles. Those readers who are familiar with his other work on pneumatic and spring air guns, "American Air Rifles", will recognize well presented sections on ballistics and pellet types. In this book he reviews the many CO-2 pistols old and new, and spends time reviewing the very few CO-2 air rifles in the market. Until I read this book, I didn't realize how small the market for CO-2 rifles really is.

Readers will want to keep this book as a reference work on ballistics and CO-2 air guns, and can use it as a handy buying guide for future purchases. Once again, Mr. House has written a thoughtful and well research presentation on an under-researched topic. Another nice job!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good guide, May 21, 2009

A very good guide on CO2 weaponry, maybe the best out there to date, (because of the rarity of volumes on the subject). it is because of the uniqueness of the subject matter that it fills a much-needed hole for those interested in this low-power form of pellet and BB propulsion. A revision does seem to be needed; yet, this is normally determined by sales, and one might imagine that there aren't as many people interested in this form of air rifles and pistols as compared to either pumps or pre-charged pneumatics.

Books strictly on CO2 airguns are hard to find but this met my expectations and then some.

For the studious types the author covers the thermodynamics of using CO2 along with explaning kenetic energy of the pellets. He explains why CO2 guns are preferred over pumps and springers in some cases. He comments on literally dozens of airguns and everyone he has personally shot and reported on accuracy and feet per second figures...He mostly covers American made airguns from the 50's to current along with a few RWS models along with all the new Umarex replica air pistols.

There is probably 50 pages on the history of various older models.

He also has weighed and measured length, skirt and head diameter of over a hundred different pellets. There are fps charts along with multiple ballistic charts.

Everyone one of the 224 pages has something useful. Especially for the novice.

If you are an CO2 airgun enthusiast this book is a must buy...
