Cheap but has it's charms,

This review is from: COBY TVDVD1350 13" TV with DVD Player (Electronics)
Build quality is horrific, remote is undecipherable, but by golly, I like this TV!
It is rather large for a 13" TV, both height and depth. Looking at the bulbous tube and hokey buttons on the front, the juvenile-looking menus with so-so translations, it smacks of "cheap import". But I must say, after adjusting the color, manually degaussing it and playing some of my PAL and region 2 disks, I fell in love. Again, build quality is horrific, but a few key strokes and it is region free, can play PAL DVD's--something I could never do with my $300 Toshiba MD9DP1. And the screen is much bigger than the Toshiba's diminutive 9". So, what can I say? Function over form? In this case, definitely so. Deserves a three star instead of just one. I just hope it lasts more than the three months that it supposedly lasted for others... PS The TV arrived with loose parts rattling around inside, a gouge on the case and badly damaged styrofoam on the inside of the box. Maybe had been thrown across the room before shipping. Amazingly it still works, maybe that's a good sign???

This tv only worked for three weeks. Then, for no apparant reason, it suddenly would not turn on. I sent it back to Coby for servicing and they sent it back still broken and with a new crack on it. No one should by from Coby!

An average, slightly unreliable tube TV.,
By It includes two sets of AV ports, but only one device can effectively be connected at a time. The ports on the front just make it more convenient for quickly swapping out devices if you have it in a shelf. You would think that a TV of this size would be easily moveable, but it is heavy in comparison to many models of its size, perhaps due to the DVD player. The DVD player worked perfectly fine for about two months before becoming highly tempremental, at which point it just would fail to read one out of every four or five DVDs I put in the unit, a problem which could oftentimes be solved by taking the disc out, turning the TV off and back on, and reinserting the disc. Nonetheless, this starts becoming a significant frustration after awhile. Picture quality is average for a cathode ray tube TV, a quickly dying technology that is quickly being replaced by LCD and other competing technologies. Therefore, if you can afford the extra cost, if you're looking for a TV of this size, I suggest going LCD, preferably HD to take advantage of all of the new HD content available both over the air and through your local cable provider.
