5.0 out of 5 stars Dependable tent pegs June 17, 2011
The bent wire tent stakes that are typically included with new tents are nearly useless in most kinds of soil, especially muddy/wet soil. These stakes are fantastic and some of my favorites, always included in my camping gear as well as our emergency kits. They even work for a quick tie out point for a medium to small dog without leaving a huge hole in the grass behind. Coghlan's tent pegs are a product that I depend on for a wide variety of purposes.

The only reason I carry any other kind of tent peg is because these don't work well in loose sand like you find in sand dunes and beaches, nor do they work well in rocky soil, as they will break. (Use those nearly useless wire ones in rocky soil--they'll bend if they hit a rock but they often manage to find that small hole between rocks. Use the big aluminum ones for sandy applications.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for sand July 20, 2012
3 stars are given because these stakes are not good for any ground that is rocky soil, hard packed soil or loose sand. The tips will bend in hard or rocky ground and not go in well at all, and pull right out in loose sand, like at a beach. They are fine for back yard camping or any loamy, or clay soil. I'd say invest in some good aluminum 9-12" stakes if you're camping for any length to hold against wind, hard, dry or loose soil/sand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly Me...These Are GIGANTIC
Silly me for not noticing the length of these pegs - they are HUGE! Five stars for sturdiness, but I'll have to return because they would never work in NYS rocky soil.
