5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buffer
Just picked up this buffer to ease some of the recoil from my Romanian WASR 10/63 AK-47 a few days ago. Got to test it out at the range along with a few new pieces of hardware I just installed on my rifle. I was admittedly skeptical at first of this piece, but have become quite surprised at how much of a difference it makes in firing my rifle. It's a hardened polymer...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buffer, March 5, 2011

Just picked up this buffer to ease some of the recoil from my Romanian WASR 10/63 AK-47 a few days ago. Got to test it out at the range along with a few new pieces of hardware I just installed on my rifle. I was admittedly skeptical at first of this piece, but have become quite surprised at how much of a difference it makes in firing my rifle. It's a hardened polymer that fits on the spring retainer and keeps the bolt from slamming back into the rear of the rifle. It takes a good deal of the recoil out of firing the weapon, enough so that my shoulder isn't aching as it did before I installed it. Weapon cycle remain intact so you won't have to worry about your brass failing to fully clear the weapon before another round is chambered. I tested this on normal semi-auto and even bump firing the weapon saw no change in cycle. 300+ rounds of ammunition were fired today (3-4-11) with no FTE's to speak of, and a lighter recoil then I'm used to from this rifle considering it is a 7.62 x 39mm round. Though the buffer comes with no instructions to speak of in the package, youtube will have several video's of how-to install the buffer. Vise grips are the one single tool that is needed for the install and that's basically to remove the spring, and reinstall the spring that's it. Long term review comments will be posted in a few months as to the sturdiness of the product after a duration of 2000+ rounds of firing.

Get this your shoulder will thank you for it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and effective, March 6, 2011

This product is well worth the money. It fit with no problems in my century arms AK-74. The rubber is flexible and strong enough to install without too much concern for destroying it. It's also firm enough to feel like it wont break down after a thousand rounds. Installation is a bit of a bear and it comes with no instructions. To install: Remove the spring rod assembly from the top of the receiver. The flat side of the buffer will be toward the front of the rifle. Work it over the end of the rod and spring and then you can spin it down the spring like a screw. Seat it to the back of the arm so the arm fits into the groove on the buffer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eases your mind a bit, if nothing else, May 21, 2011

I'm using this buffer in a Bulgarian AK-74 and have noticed no problems whatsoever with cycling - it's as if it weren't even there as far as that aspect is concern. I will also admit that the buffer relieves some of the awful metal clatter that you get with cycling. What I cannot comment on is recoil - being as the AK-74 can already boast a very, very tame recoil, I haven't noticed a bit of relief. That's neither here nor there though.

This is a fine product so far as I can tell. It sure does make me feel better, as much "softer" as it feels when cycling; that metal-on-metal crashing sure did concern me...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buffer for Saiga 308, November 19, 2011

Used it on my Saiga 308. Does dampen the recoil, but had FTE every once in a while. Before I installed it, my saiga ran flawlessly. I'll let run a few hundred more rounds to break it in and see. If not, chunk it.

Excellent product. Took 10 min to install on my Romanian WASR 10, and worth its weight in gold. Definitely eases wear on the gun as it prevents metal slamming against metal, and should be helping somewhat with recoil. I installed this as well as a Tapco slotted muzzle brake, and suddenly recoil was down almost to a .223! Good upgrade for any AK-47 variant

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic buffer for the AK!, January 6, 2011

Wow, what a difference the buffer makes! No nasty slap of the bolt to the rear of the receiver. It not only does that but also helps to cut down on felt recoil. My AK-47 now feels more like the M16s recoil. It allows for quick follow up shots right on target.

The buffer is made up of very hard poly and it surprised me. I expected a buffer made of the rubber that erasers are made from. I am glad it is so hard because it will last longer without coming apart.

The buffer comes with no instructions, but is fairly self explanatory. First remove receiver cover, then remove bolt return spring. Fit the buffer over the end of the bolt spring closest to the bolt (this is fairly hard, I used pliers to get it started), then push the buffer all the way down (this is also hard, so I screwed it all the way down the spring). Replace bolt return spring in bolt, and finally replace receiver rear cover. Rack the bolt a few times by hand and notice how it stops just a bit shorter to the rear.

I have read of people having short stroke issues with buffers, but I have put 300 rounds through my rifle with nary a problem. I believe the issue may stem from not seating the buffer fully to the rear of the receiver.

I will post pictures of my installation in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ak47 buffer eliminates bolt slap, January 30, 2012

This is a great item to install on your ak47. Very simple install indeed. It just slips down the recoil spring and done. The sound of the bolt is a lot quieter.

i immediatly noticed the "heavy" kick the ak has my first time shooting it. at first i thought it wasn't too bad, till i went through a hundred rounds.. my shoulder was bruised! i heard about these buffers and decided to try one out. It made a large difference. The kick of the ak is about half what it used to be and the installation of the buffer was extremely easy, like one minute.. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who owns an ak47.
