3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD, BUT ...
Good, but kind of nonsense. Savage Art is much better than this book because the thriller and the characters are better established and linked. By the way it`s a good entertaining and I would try other books from this author.

Cody O'brien is hiding from the Russian mob. She and her eight year old son, Ryan, are isolated but content in their northern California community until Ryan is kidnapped from his school. Now Cody must risk everything to find Ryan before it is too late. Ever since the witness protection program failed her, cody has relied only upon her own skills and resources to protect herself and her son. Now she must trust others once again if she is to find Ryan in time. But she must also determine who she can trust.

Danielle Girard creates characters that you really want to get to know and tells a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover. I really enjoyed her previous books, 'Chasing Darkness', 'Ruthless Game', and 'Savage Art', so I could not wait to read 'Cold Silence'. It is worth the wait!

4.0 out of 5 stars Just came out....., November 6, 2002
This review is from: Cold Silence (Paperback)
yea, this book just came out, but i had to buy it as soon as i saw it because danielle girard rocks. she's the best woman thriller writer ever. she keeps the pace fast and the action violent. she doesnt dwell on a love story.
Ok, the only reason i didnt give this book five stars is because i liked her last books chasing darkness and ruthless game better. Cold silence is alot more evolved and slightly different. Mostly because she envolves the Russian mob instead of some serial killer. i really liked the character cody o'brien or megan riggs..or whatever. i just like the characterization and the stubborness she portrays.
i think the villains could have been a little meaner, even though oskar kirov was a mean son of a gun...she could have added something more. im not sure what. he was an old dying man...i just dont think it's that threatening. his sons were dropping like flies and his guards were ridiculously easy to kill.
but i did like the ending finale' with the snowmobile's and the water fight. that was the best part of the whole thing. any ways...its worth the time. i wouldnt say it succeed's her other novels, but it's great read all the same. buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars superb thriller, November 12, 2002
This review is from: Cold Silence (Paperback)
She was a FBI agent, happily married to another agent. They had a son and they thought their whole lives were ahead of them until Mark Riggs was killed in a shoot out with Russian Mafioso Viktor Kirov who also died in the incident. Viktor's father Oskar swore vengeance on Megan and her son Ryan forcing them to go into the Witness Protection Program. When Oskar and his minions trace them to their new location, Megan and Ryan use their escape plan to leave the program.

Three years later, under different names Megan and Ryan feel safe living in a small California town until the day Ryan fails to come home because an unknown assailant thought the child is a millionaire's son. Just when Megan thinks thing can't get any worse she finds out that Oskar has learned Ryan's location and is going to kill him. The frantic mother races the clock in a frantic attempt to reach her son before a determined murderer can carry out his plan of vengeance.

Danielle Girard is a superb thriller writer who never disappoints her audience. COLD SILENCE touches on the primal fear of every parent so that readers will finish the book in one sitting to find out the fate of the child. Even though the heroine is a trained agent, she is a mother first and her fear endears her to the audience even more than the typical protagonist. COLD SILENCE will appeal to fans of Barbara Parker and Jeffrey Deaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Her best work yet!, December 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Cold Silence (Paperback)
After enjoying her early works, I couldn't put down "Cold Silence." I purchased it for other family members who have been hooked on her style. She keeps improving her characters as she goes-I look forward to many more works from this author.

Cold Silence is a gripping tale of suspense that kept my interest until the end. Ms. Girard weaves an intriguing story and gives the reader an opportunity to really know her characters.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only partly satisfying suspense thriller, April 17, 2003

This review is from: Cold Silence (Paperback)
Cody O'Brien and her eight-year-old son R.J. live in northern California in a life cut off from a life they once knew. That was when they were Megan and Ryan Riggs, before Megan's husband was killed by the Russian mob and the two went on the run for their lives. Failed by the Witness Protection Program, Cody takes their protection into her own capable hands and creates a new life for them on her own. All is well until one day, R.J. is kidnapped after school. Was it the Russion mob or some more terrifying captor? Megan cannot trust anyone but herself to find her son.

The storyline was interesting and suspenseful, and kept me turning pages late into the night - I'm not the fastest reader, but I polished off this book in just over a day. However, character development was mediocre at best, and I wish I could have cared more about the people in this story. There were a few moments where I was made aware of the writing process behind the story, and I dislike that. The plot rates a 3.5 stars, but the characterization and writing style brought it down for me.
