PRAISE FOR A STUDY IN SCARLET
“Every generation should be introduced to the only unofficial consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most acclaimed pair of characters, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, have entertained and enthralled readers of all ages from the late 1800’s to the present day. The first book in the series, A Study in Scarlet, is an excellent introduction into the world of mystery and deduction that has become akin to Mr. Holmes.” BaltimoreReads.com

THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
“A brilliant book! I thoroughly enjoyed the 12 stories, each different, and each varying in their crime levels. I heartily recommend this book to you!” The Big Book Review

THE MEMOIRS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
“To my mind, this is easily the best collection of Holmes stories ever assembled. The variety of the stories are great and, as always, excellently written. What I like most about it is that it reveals many stages of Holme's life.” John Darling

THE SIGN OF FOUR
“Watson and Sherlock are back in this delicious mystery, one of only four full Sherlock novels. This one has it all and is my personal favorite.” Melissa

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES
“The ultimate tale of the ultimate Victorian hero, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a true masterpiece of the mystery genre, and quite possibly remains the finest mystery novel ever produced.” Brad

THE RETURN OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
“More rollicking adventures with Holmes and Watson, all with heart, banter, and increasingly dark crimes. “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton”, it could be argued, is the quintessential Holmes story.” The Literary Omnivore

THE VALLEY OF FEAR
“I sped through this novel which in my opinion was a superb tale of mystery, fear & tyranny that stretched from an English country manor to the American coal fields.” David

HIS LAST BOW
“Here, we have a collection of eight classic short stories featuring the world-renowned investigator Sherlock Holmes and his faithful chronicler, Dr. John Watson M.D. I'm quite the fan of Sir Arthur's short stories, because each one is as good as a novel and they're the perfect length to read on the bus, in the bath or before going to bed.” Sociabookshelves.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Brilliant December 28, 2013
By Jak
Format:Kindle Edition
If Conan Doyle hadn’t had a hard time establishing a medical practice as a young man and filled his time with writing, we may well not have had the four novels and 56 short stories chronicling the tales of crime and detection that have continued to fascinate readers for well over a century.

Sherlock Holmes and his right-hand man Dr Watson. Hard to think of a pair of fictional detectives who are better known. Their dramatic and often complex cases with their gripping plots are absorbing reading.

I tend to forget things about Sherlock Holmes if I let too much time pass without re-reading his adventures. I forget that Conan Doyle wrote only four Holmes novels (but, fortunately for Holmes addicts, 56 stories as well). I forget how bizarre are some of the crimes Holmes and Dr Watson investigate, how absorbing and dramatic their investigations are, how compelling the often quirky Holmes’ reasoning, skill at disguise, and forensic brilliance are.

And, what should be to the forefront of my recollection – the fact that almost all these attributes of a great detective were invented by Conan Doyle. Later writers of detective fiction have attributed many of Holmes’ skills to more recent detectives, but it was Conan Doyle who first imagined them and amalgamated them to create the very first “consultant detective,” one whose brilliance still amazes the reader more than a century later.

Great to have the four novels and all 56 stories in one edition, one well formatted for Kindle and enhanced by including the original illustrations. I’ll keep it handy to re-read these compelling tales of the greatest of all fictional detectives and his unforgettable partner.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT ENTIRELY COMPLETE... March 9, 2014
By KTFFAN
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This edition does not include stories contained in THE CASE BOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES; I had to purchase that separately. The first part of the volume appeared to have few typos...and then I reached the final section of stories under the heading HIS LAST BOW. It represents my ongoing complaint about the final product being sold to us, no matter how inexpensively. Typos and misspellings and word omissions abound. The joy one gets out of reading Sherlock is completely offset by the complete lack of integrity in selling material that has not been transcribed professionally or edited for errors. It is likely I'll revert to my trusty hard copy of the Sherlock stories and leave this edition in my Kindle 'for emergency reading only' when away from home. Hey, AMAZON, when are you going to start insisting on quality Kindle books? I blame you as much as the publisher for selling an inferior product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The indefatigable genius of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! December 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Just what I was looking for - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories & novels collected together for Kindle. The font & layout is easy to read, and I liked the period illustrations. There have been many screen portrayals of Holmes & Watson, from Basil Rathbone to Robert Downey Jnr. So I found it interesting to see illustrations of the detectives as they were first imagined.

Having just started reading this edition, I'm finding the Baker Street detective stories as intriguing and involving as ever. From what I've seen, this is a well-edited, cleanly presented and error-free edition, which counts for a lot!

With so much here to enjoy, this is an edition I know I will be dipping into again and again over the Christmas period and beyond.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just a very few illustrAtions March 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Sherlock Holmes stories are great, of course, but the description of this item is grossly deceptive. It includes just a handful of the original illustrations. Next time I'd look for a version that has all the illustrations or pick a free version with none.
