This review is from: COMPLETE BOOK OF BASS TECHNIQUE (Paperback)
Did you get past lesson #11 in Bunny Brunel's previous book, Mel Bay's Complete Book of Bass Essentials For 4 & 5 String Bass? If the answer is yes, then go ahead and buy this book. It uses a similar, but more thorough, approach to learning musical patterns based on scales and arpeggios. You'll notice how some of these patterns have a classical feel to them, or Spanish, or jazz, etc. Here are a few things to note about this book: - There are no specific exercises for the low B string on 5 string basses this time. - The "Auxiliary Diminished" scale is missing from this book. However, it does introduce the "Harmonic Major" scale. - Many exercises in the book use all triplets in 4/4 time. Wouldn't it have been easier / cleaner to use 12/8 time instead? - There seems to be more errors / inconsistencies (e.g. missing notes) towards the end of the book. Maybe the author or editor (if there was one) was rushed? Overall, it's a good (although not "complete") book of bass technique.
