Another Mike Reagan masterpiece,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CONAN SOUNDTRACK Video Game Original Score PROMO CD THQ (Audio CD)
Being an avid video game/movie soundtrack collector I'll be the first to admit, I'll buy nearly anything composer Mike Reagan produces/composes. His work on the God of War series, Darksiders and Darkwatch was nothing short of phenomenal. His distinct action sound has lent itself very well to everything he's done. Available only as a Promo distributed to Best Buy stores a physical copy of this soundtrack is rather difficult to come by. Luckily I was able to come across a copy from a gracious seller here on Amazon who had it. Here are my thoughts and track ratings;
Track listing 1. Conan Main Theme 10/10 (Bombastic and unforgettable main theme completely befitting of Conan) 2. An Age Undreamed Of 9/10 (Short but atmospheric) 3. Ocean Ruins Ambient 9/10 (Nice melodic ambience) 4. Ocean Ruins Combat 10/10 (Big and bellowing vocal action music) 5. The Land of Shem 9/10 (Egyptian sounding theme) 6. Shem Battle 10/10 (More vocal and drum heavy combat music) 7. Stygian Mystery 9/10 (Short but atmospheric) 8. Sand Dragon! 10/10 (Percussively heavy vocal combat track) 9. Kush Desert 7/10 (Melodic and vocal but my least favorite track on the album) 10. Kush Warrior Battle 10/10 (Heavy combat track with both tribal vocals and beats) 11. Ocean Ruins Suspense 9/10 (Excellent background exploration music) 12. Giant Squid Battle 10/10 (More flawless combat music) 13. Graven Intro/Battle 10/10 (Powerful and foreboding villain intro) 14. Graven's Punishment 10/10 (A short but vocal masterpiece) 15. Conan End Theme 9/10 (Slow and moving end to the score) Definitely one of the rising stars in the world of video game composers, Mike Reagan outdoes himself with Conan. This album outshines his Darkwatch score and is easily on par with his works released for the God of War series. In Conan you can clearly hear Reagan pay homage to the late Basil Poledouris of original Conan movie fame. The majority of the tracks incorporate heavy drums and choral vocals reminiscent of Poledouris original Conan film scores. Reagan does it in an admirable and respectable way without directly copying Poledouris' work. That alone speaks volumes of Reagan's talent. My only complaint is that this score was never commercially released in its entirety. The score itself is way too short, it is only a Promo release after all. In any case, Conan is another top notch video game score that Reagan can happily put under his belt. Keep 'em coming Mike!
