5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh Out Loud Comedy, July 26, 2007
This review is from: Corner Gas Season 3 (DVD)
I'm one of the few Americans lucky enough to be familiar with this series. It is one of the funniest TV shows ever created. The writing is top notch and the characters are quirky and funny. If you don't know someone who reminds you of Oscar, you have lived a very sheltered life. Well worth the time and effort to watch. Better comedy than anything on American TV today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome clean comedy!, March 7, 2007

I'm from Canada, but I have been in Japan for much of the past 9 years, so I had never heard of Corner Gas. Then someone blessed me with season 3 of the show. I thought, "Hmm, Canadian animation. Interesting concept." Turns out it's not animation, but rather a sitcom not too different from Seinfeld. Of course the setting couldn't be more different! Corner Gas is set in small-town Saskatchewan, most of the scenes taking place at the local gas station or coffee shop. The show, though, is more character-driven than plot driven.

This is, like Seinfeld, a show mostly about nothing. It relies on the inventiveness of the writers to create absurd circumstances for their cast of quirky characters. Double the number of characters, though! With so many unique personalities, it seems these shows would practically write themselves. But I'm sure it's a lot harder than it looks. I love how each episode ends by tying in with the rest of the episode in some way. It is classic comedy, accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages, all walks of life. Canadians, introduce this show to your American and foreign friends! I'm sure they'll love it!

I had read about this show on the internet, but since we don't get WGN I was unable to watch. After watching a few clips online I decided to buy a season for my father - we're hooked, I ended up buying the other available seasons. One of the funniest shows around, we usually watch a few episodes on Friday night. This show isn't for everyone, but if you like shows such as Scrubs, Seinfeld, and the like you will enjoy Corner Gas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best TV to Spend Your Money On, April 10, 2008
This review is from: Corner Gas Season 3 (DVD)
Queue up Season Three! In season three, "Corner Gas" continues to deliver more of what made it great while still in its first season.

I sincerely hope that WGN, which carries the series in the USA, will soon begin broadcasting the current season as they air in Canada. (Currently they only air reruns.)

I have heard this series compared to "Friends" as well as "Seinfeld." However, to me, "Corner Gas" is much better than either "Friends" or "Seinfeld." Of the two comparisons, the one to Seinfeld is probably closer to the feel of "Corner Gas."

This show is REAL. True-to-life characters (I KNOW some of these people!!!) and realistic, if zany circumstances.

Although Lacey by now has become a true co-leading character, the show continues to revolve around the independent gas station and cafe that the two own and operate in Dog River, an extremely small (fictional) town in the middle of Saskatchewan, Canada. While character development has occurred over the three seasons, it is not necessary to see the previous shows to understand the latter ones.

However, seeing the first episode of Season One does explain why the Cafe owner, Lacey, is such a fish out of water--she's from a big city over 1500 miles away. The opening scene of the first episode of Season One also has THE BEST example of dry, wry wit I have EVER seen on television, furthering the reasons to see this most excellent series from the beginning.

Brent Butt, the show's writer and creator, is a true master storyteller in the classic sense. I think what I like most about his humor is that it points out the humorous side of small town life without in any way being derogative or condescending. It is more the self-deprecating humor of someone who can laugh at himself with grace and style.

I highly recommend Season Three of "Corner Gas" for its content as well as its comedy. Its only crude element is frequent use of the word "Jack@$$" by a cantankerous curdmudgeonly character, Brent's father, also a regular on the show. However, this is almost his patented tagline by this point, and I don't think it's going away any time soon.

Season Three's DVDs are well designed. The cartoon themes of the box and the menus in general are not my favorite, but it is charming in whimsical kind of way. Menu navigation is fairly smooth.

This season of Corner Gas is very good, easily on par with season One and Two . For anyone who likes understated, clean comedy, this show is for you. You could watch this with your favorite grandmother and your best drinking buddy, and you would all be laughing.

This show is like a friend visiting every time I play this set of DVDs. (I have all 6 seasons.)
Their humor is wacky, and certainly makes the tension of any bad day disappear. I tell you this shows creator, Brent Butt is a riot and very creative.
If you haven't seen this show, and really like wry humor with an edge yet still family friendly then take a chance you won't regret and buy a season or two of Corner Gas.
And if someone says, "Hey, you got gas?" You look 'em square in the eye and proudly say, "Why, yes I do."

Great Comely series. Poor disc format. Plays on some devices and not on others (cost of unit is not a factor, just the presence of the mystery Canadian codec). TV quality resolution. Arrived on time and in good condition.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. I came across this show by accident when they were showing it on WGN and fell in love with it the first time I watched. Slowly collecting all the seasons. Can't wait until I have the complete set.
