Diamon Eyes Album Trailer

“Pretty,” affirms Deftones singer and guitarist Chino Moreno when discussing their new full-length studio album, Diamond Eyes. “We’re not afraid to be pretty.” It’s an adjective most riff-heavy groups might avoid, but then, Deftones have never been your average hard rock band.
As kids, the Sacramento fivesome cut its teeth on Anthrax and The Smiths, ... Read more in Amazon's Deftones Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Many Tones of Deftones February 9, 2013
While the Deftones are well-known and revered for the body of work they have amassed over the past two decades, they very well could have made a career out of being a cover band on the side. This collection, unimaginatively dubbed "Covers," packages a good chunk of tunes the band has borrowed and subsequently spun on their heads throughout the years. These eleven tracks showcase a variety of influences (some obvious, some obscure) and offer another perspective into the ever-evolving nature and duality of the Deftones sound.

The set opens with a cover of The Cars' "Drive," which sets a mellow, nostalgic tone that is carried throughout the album, culminating in their gorgeous take on Santo & Johnny's `50s hit, "Sleep Walk." Sandwiched in between, the band covers a variety of influences, ranging from The Cure, The Smiths and Duran Duran. Their cover of The Cure's "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" was pulled from a live taping of MTV's short-lived ICON series (featuring, you guessed it, The Cure), and as such the audio quality isn't quite up to par with the rest of the set. Regardless, the cover is phenomenal and faithful for Deftones and Cure fans alike. A genuine standout, Duran Duran's "The Chauffer" is perhaps the band's most available and most brilliant cover. You could listen to this song on loop for an hour and never get bored. Likewise, the band's take on underrated `90s alt-rockers The Cardigans on "Do You Believe?" bears repeat listening, which is perhaps a tribute to the original's intensity (side-bar, The Cardigans are/were great and you owe it yourself to dig into their catalogue).

Ecstatic. I've been wanting this since it was sold out on Record Store Day at Amoeba. I was sad becuase I drove from out of town and waited in line to be told "sold out" when it was my turn. I'm very happy with my purchase :)
