This review is from: CPE Bach: Sonatas for Violin & Pianoforte (Audio CD)
C. P. E. Bach has a deserved reputation as an original, a one-of-a-kind composer, something of an eccentric, with an ear more for surprise than for melody or romance. Unfortunately, he has attracted all too many performers who have been only too happy to enhance his eccentricities to the detriment of all else. This dynamic young pair, Amandine Beyer and Edna Stern, have devoted themselves to the music, to bringing their vision of it to life. Their work is breathtakingly insightful and free of the eccesses that have marred so many of the past. These are the finest performances of the violin and fortepiano sonatas ever recorded. If you have any interest in C. P. E. Bach, these are not to be missed.
