Product Description

This CR Magnetics CR4510 series current transducer combines a solid-core current transformer and signal conditioner, and is suitable for use in industrial automation systems. The transducer provides true root-mean-square (RMS) measurement for distorted voltage waveforms, with an accuracy of 0.5% full scale (FS) and a response time of 250 ms (10-90% step change). Mounting options include DIN rail or panel. This voltage transducer is Underwriters Laboratories (UR) Recognized and Conformité Européenne (CE) certified for quality assurance. It is suitable for monitoring variable-frequency drive (VFD) and silicone control rectifier (SCR) loads and other "noisy" loads that produce distorted waveforms.

Size: 0-150 VAC Input Range Verified Purchase
I have a Graphtec digital Data Logger and also a Digital Oscilloscope for monitoring and recording various transient engineering parameters such as voltages and currents during appliance start-up, or long-term stability of the 120vAC mains voltage. A key problem with such measuring instruments is that they lack the ability to record time-varying true-rms values of such parameters...instead they record the instantaneous value or wave shape. Though the instantaneous wave shape can be of interest, often what is desired is just the time varying behavior of the rms voltage itself. If the voltage is just a sinusoidal wave, the rms value can be inferred from an averaged rectified value. However, if the wave shape is not sinusoidal, as from a power inverter, a true rms voltage transducer is required.

After considerable research, the CR Magnetics unit was found to be a good fit to what I needed, though I'd prefer that it had a 12vDC supply as opposed to the harder (for me) to provide 24vDC. In the end, what I did was packaged the unit in a box that contains a small 24vDC supply powered from the 120v input that I'm measuring. My 24vDC power supply uses a small 24v transformer and considerable capacitance to allow the unit to run during few-second-long power interruptions with minimal 24vDC voltage sag. In testing the CR Magnetics unit, I found that it is very insensitive (+/- a percent or so accuracy) to the 24vDC input supply voltage over a range from around 30 volts all the way down to 10 volts or so. This is great, as it makes the unit quite insensitive to my semi-regulated 24vDC supply.

In the end, the transducer works great and provides me with a plug-in unit to allow my data logger to record mains voltage stability and transient behavior during appliance start-up.

This product is good but overall out finishing is bad not as I see it in the attach pictures.
