This CR Magnetics CR4510 series current transducer combines a solid-core current transformer and signal conditioner, and is suitable for use in industrial automation systems. The transducer provides true root-mean-square (RMS) measurement for distorted voltage waveforms, with an accuracy of 0.5% full scale (FS) and a response time of 250 ms (10-90% step change). After considerable research, the CR Magnetics unit was found to be a good fit to what I needed, though I'd prefer that it had a 12vDC supply as opposed to the harder (for me) to provide 24vDC. In the end, what I did was packaged the unit in a box that contains a small 24vDC supply powered from the 120v input that I'm measuring. My 24vDC power supply uses a small 24v transformer and considerable capacitance to allow the unit to run during few-second-long power interruptions with minimal 24vDC voltage sag. In testing the CR Magnetics unit, I found that it is very insensitive (+/- a percent or so accuracy) to the 24vDC input supply voltage over a range from around 30 volts all the way down to 10 volts or so. This is great, as it makes the unit quite insensitive to my semi-regulated 24vDC supply.
In the end, the transducer works great and provides me with a plug-in unit to allow my data logger to record mains voltage stability and transient behavior during appliance start-up.
