4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool
I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on this product. It is amazing. It transformed our VBS decorations in a flash. Two downfalls...1 the smell of burning foam is overwhelming, even in a well ventilated space, and 2 it overheats fairly quickly and you have to let it cool down before moving on.I used it heavily so I'm sure this was a normal side effect. I would buy...

Used it one time. It didn't do what it was advertised to do. It wouldn't stay hot long enough to cut the foam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time Saver!, January 22, 2012

This little tool is a must have for anyone crafting with large pieces of foam. It saves time, energy, and frustration. The only con is that it is not super easy to clean because the melted foam sort of sticks to it after a few minutes. If you're ok with that then there's no problem at all. However, if you're going to be disappointed in using a product once and never having it clean up to look like new, you may want to research other items. For me, it's not an issue. I don't care what the product looks like, just that it works! And this product does what it says.

I had to cut 1 inch thick 8 foot long styrofoam boards with foil on both sides.
This knife easily cut through at a good speed. I used a board to make the cuts straight.

If you do any amount of crafting or in my case working on costumes and set props, this tool is a necessary item in your arsenal! We tried other types of tools for cutting and shaping foam and this is the only one that works.
The wire type are super hard to control and you'll get very frustrated! The price is right and it came very quickly!

...but, you're not going to end up with any pretty cuts. I think this is great if you need to cut mass sections of foam quickly and without mess. Wear ventilation protection! Also I think the price for this is way too high!

1.0 out of 5 stars Very dissatisfied with company/manufacturer, February 9, 2010
This review is from: CRAFTERS HOT KNIFE, Foam Cutter w/ 6" Blade, Gets up to 700 degrees F (Misc.)
I ordered the product on 1/25/10, when I had not recieved it by the 5th of Febuary I called the manufacturer, which is where I had directly purchased the item, TL Marshall Co. The president of the company, Lorraine, told me that the address that I had given was incorrect and that I should check with my neighbor, which I did and she had not recieved it either. Lorraine told me that she would check with her shipping dept. to see if it had returned and reported that it had not, she was very nice...and offered to replace the knife at wholesale, I told her that I was not comfortable with that (as I had already paid the 81.50) and she said "I'm sorry it didn't work out for you." Of course it didn't work out for me, I paid $81.50 and recieved nothing, I was still very nice as well, as there is just no point in getting angry, I let her know that I would be contacting my bank. I also called another company that sold the same knife, asked who manufactured the knife and they refused to tell me!!! Did my own research and found that this knife is Manufactured by TL Marshall. The knife is a great deal and wish I could have tried it, but don't appreciate getting taken advantage of by any company, even a small one, to be successful one must practice good ethics, do not feel that this company can provide quality if it doesn't practice simple, thought-minded customer service.
