I was installing a kitchen counter tile backsplash using 3 X 6 tiles that contained many small, random, holes giving an antique, aged look. If I used a "standard" grouting process, these holes would be filed with grout, and impossible to clean out. The grout color would also affect the tiles' appearance. For simpicity, especially when tiling a vertical surface, I chose a pre-mixed grout. This would also allow me to spend more time during the grouting process since I could just put the lid on the grout and pick up later. Somewhere online, I saw that one person had used an empty sealant tube to apply grout. Here, the person took an old water-based caulking tube and cleaned it before filing it with grout. To clean, you connect an air hose to the pointed end and "blow" out the plug and clean. Not wishing to spend any time cleaning an old cartridge (or starting with a cheap new one), I purchased this empty cartridge. It loaded okay but it was quickly clear that the grout wasn't coming out as planned, only the water in the grout was being forced out so I gave up on this idea. When I tried to blow out the plug, it came out okay but sprayed me with grout, another lesson learned. Another interesting idea for these cartridges would be to pre-mix white caulk with your house paint color. Someone sells a system for tinting caulk but it is too expensive for me but probably not for a professional house painter. I did succeed in grouting my tile by simply lining each joint with blue painters' tape before applying the grout with a narrow putty knife. My wife followed along smoothing the joints and wiping away any excess with water. Took extra time but the result was fantastic.

-1 star for price $5 as one can buy a full tub with many other things for a lot less. I would consider 3 tubes fair for this price. However, the tube it self was of high quality and made of smooth ~3mm plastic; thicker than I expected.
The tip had both an aluminum seal and and uncut nozzle; just like any full tube you might purchase in a store. This means you likely could use it to store things in it for a long time before use.

I bought this to fill in 1/8 inch grout lines in my shower as the tiles have a faux stone facade with nooks and crevices that make it difficult to wash out. The cartridge worked well for about 20 minutes, but after a while the handle on my caulking gun became almost impossible to use. I switched to a grout bag, which I thought wouldn't work well due to the size of it's opening, but found that I was able to shape the tip and extrude the grout more easily than I had expected and would recommend others looking to grout just purchase a bag instead.

Notes from use: Do not leave any air in the tube as it will compress before your materials and thus cause the material to extrude slowly, and continue to extrude after you release pressure from the gun.

I used this to deliver a ceramic agglomeration and it worked fine. Cartridge comes with a metallic-plastic seal at the nozzle/tube interface. Plunger was placed sideways into tube, so both were a bit deformed at delivery, but after removing them they returned to their appropriate form.

Shipping was fast and in a simple package. Overall, a good purchase for me.

Bought 2 of these empty cartridges with the bright idea of loading them with the acrylic stucco material I used on my house. My plan was to squeeze the matching material into gaps around window and door frames instead of ugly looking caulk. To make a long story short, it was an utter failure. The tip would plug with the grainy stucco, the pressure would build up inside the tube, then let go squirting the material all over. After a couple minutes of this, the pressure in the tube made the liquid portion of the stucco start to separate from the solids totaly clogging the cartridge. I think these cartridges would work much better with a more homogeneous material like cake frosting or grease. No regrets, it's not like I dropped a boatload of money into these things and I'm saving my unused cartridge for my next brainstorm.

I used these to inject refractory cement into gaps in my fireplace smoke chamber, using a pneumatic caulking gun mounted to a pole. I used a pneumatic air trigger at the bottom of the pole and it worked very well.

I did notice some kind of grease on the cartridge pistons, likely to aid installation after filling the tube. If you are using these empty cartridges for any kind of food project, make sure you clean them out with plenty of soap and warm water first.

I was a little disappointed that the pistons were stored inside the tubes sideways (for easy removal) rather than in separate bags or something. This left the tubes and pistons slightly deformed. Also, the outside of the tubes were littered with adhesive labels.

Pastry bags are annoying, especially when trying to fill manicotti shells...preventing shells from splitting during filling. I used this device for uncooked shells, as they are not split during cooking. The sacrifice is you obtain flatter cooked product than using cooked shells. However, it should make filling cooked shells easier.

You do need a long wooden object (i.e., chopstick) to remove the sealing plug, after expending cartridge ingredients, allowing refilling. I used a 12 inch pastry bag to fill the cartridge; one 3/4 loaded bag fills the cartridge and each cartridge load fills 4 or 5 shells.

The interior bottom has a seal which you must rupture before use. Similar to all cartridges, you must remove some portion of the tip before use. I cut the tip where its taper disappeared. I also bought a new caulk gun as my food grade tool. Cleaning the cartridge requires only dish-washing soap and hot water.

Shipping was faster than expected. Glad to have this device. I could not find these a year ago. Great price.
