What I remember about this CD as I was a kid growing up in the eighties, all the electronic music that was around. I am not a fan of that kind of music but this album happens to be the best of that genre of music. Yes, the electronic music is there but they mix in real instruments to balance out the album as a whole. The songs are very under rated. The way the second half starts out is very compelling, "88 seconds in Greensboro" starts off as a rocker with screaming guitar and a smooth bass very 80's style, a very serious song with live drums to boot then has that song fades into the next song, The native daughters of the golden west. This song is very grandoise, it stills gives me goose bumps. Once that song comes to a end the surprise of the record comes along, Le femme accident.
This song would make George Martin of the Beatles fame stand up and applause. Not your typical 80's album good material here.

The 80s were dominated by synth - pop bands, but I honestly don't think that many had the scope that Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark had.

(Incidentally, this is my choice for Most Interesting Name For A Group.)

This may not be what they'll be best remembered for, but the RANGE here is impressive.

"88 Seconds" is almost a power rock ballad, with sledgehammer riffs.
"La Femme Accident" is just pretty, graceful and airy.
The vocal harmonies in the intro to "Hold You" are chilling.
"So In Love" is a humorous au revoir to a terrible romance, and "Secret" is one of the most wonderfully likeable pop creations ever made.
Counter that with the depression of the title song and you get an idea of the range of feeling here.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Deja Vu all over again., November 3, 2011

I'd been looking for this album for years, thinking that it just hadn't been reissued as so many of the 80's music had. OMD was not what one would call a hugely popular group and I thought it was gone forever. And then I found it...wait for it....at Amazon. It's a fantastic album and brought back so many good memories. Fun.
