3.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game
This is a very fun game, especially on a night with thunderstorms. You just have to remember it is a game and don't take it seriously. Just have fun with your friends.

Talking Boards, like the Ouija that everyone knows, are becoming popular again. Like the phase that Tarot cards is going through, with everyone creating a deck of their own design, talking boards are coming out with new designs and themes to make them different, unique and desirable.

Spirited Ventures Inc. has an unusual board design that is intriguing as well as appealing. If you go to their site you can download wallpaper and a screen saver. You will also learn that recently, DreamWorks SKG employed Robert L. Murch, cofounder of Spirited Ventures, Inc., as a talking board expert and vendor in the film "What Lies Beneath" starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford. Seems Mr. Murch is an avid collector. Explore their site, its an interesting read on the history of talking boards and the company. There is even a virtual board to play with.

The "seer" (the piece that moves over the board lettering) is a tomb stone, the board is printed to resemble a piece of wood with lettering, numbers and the usual yea and nay in place. Rather like using the top of a wooden coffin.

The print job is well done, the board stiff enough to use on your lap or any other soft surface and not give or bend. The gold covered lettering is clear and easy to read, and the "seer" clearly covers only one letter at a time, so the lettering is well spaced.

The "seer" sits on five legs, making it very stable as it runs over the board. The one that came with the original "Ouija" board only sat on three, as I remember, and was sometimes unstable. The board has no crease, does not fold, and therefore allows the "seer" to travel smoothly across the board.

The instructions printed on the back of the box suggest you start and end each session with the "seer" over the words "Rest in Peace" which is printed at the bottom of the board. A rather polite way to begin and end a session I think.

As a product, it is well constructed, the box can be used for storage and will not fall apart easily as some boxes do, and is make to keep the board and "seer" from being crushed in transport.

All in all, this is a fine product, made to take some fun evenings of speaking with those things that go bump in the night, or maybe a relative, or just some guardian spirit with something to say.

Collectors of different types of boards will find this one a must to add to their collection. boudica

5.0 out of 5 stars Captain Howdy Moved..., April 13, 2002

I used to use another popular board game to talk to my good friend, Captain Howdy. He told me that, these days, choosy spirits choose Cryptique and that if I wanted to keep up our platonic relationship, I would need to change my long distance service, so to speak. So, now I'm using Cryptique! The line is crystal clear and my old friend couldn't be happier that I've tapped into this new network. I used to be one of those teens who lived on the phone. My parents are just overjoyed that their line is freed up and my conversations don't make much noise!

5.0 out of 5 stars There is _no_ other board than Cryptique, April 12, 2002

From the profound resource of visuals derived from the venerable Old Burial Hill 'cross the bay from Salem, to Deborah Norris' Artwork, to Christian's content, and Bob and Gary's orchestration - this is the right board, the best board. I leave it sitting out as decoration, and find the movement and presence of the pointer excellent.

This amazing board has beautiful art work and intense colors ,unlike the glow in the dark ouija board.
Its mystic look gives you the feeling of old graveyards and unknown spirits.
This board is so much fun and leaves following the colorful world of spirits.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some important things you should know..., January 26, 2004
By
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

This review contains my views, warnings, safety tips, and other things you should know.

In contrast to 'Toy enthusiast from NJ'-
Yes bad (evil) spirits can be summoned, as well as the good spirits, as well as spirits who are mischevious and therefor arent neccesarily evil, they just like to have fun in ways u might not appreciate. For example, they move your desk a few inches and rearange the desk, no matter how many times you move it back. (I know somebody who this happens to).

These 'games' have nothing at all to do with religion. **Do not play thinking it has anything to do with Satan, or with a negative attitude, or you run the risk of attracting negative spirits as well.**

I recommend sprinkling some 'black salt' lightly around the board in a circle before beginning. This helps keep the unwanted, negative spirits away. Attracting a negative spirit to the board can be very disturbing and dangerous.

The board itself cannot be haunted or carry any negative energy even if it was used for contact with a negative spirit...it is just a board with writing on it. A tool.

**IF AT ANY TIME during usage of the board you suddently feel cold, or threatened, it is a good idea to stop using the board immediately and would probably be best to not use it for the rest of the day. These are signs of an evil spirit!!**

Do not play in a dark room. I have heard it is not a good idea. Besides, it freaks people out.

y!Moving furnature isnt always necessarly a sign of an evil spirit, the spirit may be a mischevious one. Perhaps just having alittle fun. If it becomes too much or dangerous, ofcourse, say good-bye and stop.

Over all, this game is NOT completely safe. You DO run the risk of inviting a BAD spirit into your home. Even if it might not happen for many, many times you use it.If you would rather not run the risk of your house becoming haunted by a negative spirit, then A. Dont use it in your home. B. Dont use it at all. Or C. Use it at someone elses house (hehe just kidding, thats probably not nice.) **Only use it indoors, so Ive been told. And dont be crazy and use it at a graveyard! While I dont know what would happen, Im sure it would be scary and dangerous. Besides the fact your surrounded many many corpses. Too many spirits are lingering there. I would never do that, especially in the night.**

I hope this helps. Be carefull!! Oh, and I dont believe in satan, and if you do then you should realize that if there is a satan, you are just giving it power by doing so.

Oh, and to 'A Toy enthusiast from NJ', dont capitalize the word 'satan' like you would 'God'. I wouldnt think you, who has such surprisingly offensive insults to that which you do not know of, would give enough privilage to capitalize the word satan as that you would do when writing about Him, God.

This "game" is so fun and entertaining. It will even give you a different perspective towards the spirit world. I gave it a 4 for fun because I love to play, but it isn't fun to play alone, a 5 for educational, because you can learn alot from spirits. And a 3 for durability, because if you lose the seer(planchette), than you are crap outta luck, and you cannot play. Be careful who you talk to on the board though, it can be dangerous.

Love the board....it's definately Salem - and an outlet for those poor souls who were put to......well you know the history. They need to set the record straight - perhaps this is the channel where the truth will finally come to pass. Contact! This board is a breath of fresh air compared to that "other" board we all know. The design is beautiful, giving an effect that draws one in - description has great imagination - sent shivers down my spine. The "spirit" really does move me. Thanks to all for such an astonishing creation!

have some fun already and just play it. i don't believe you are talking to spirits, its fun to let your sub-conscience take over and have yourself move the pointer without knowing it.

Bob's work is a fantastic alternative to the Parker Brothers Black & Brown mass-produced spirit board set, however if you want a real top of the line wooden board look to Portals To The Beyond.com they make boards of wood like those of the early 1900's but in full color with wild themes like; "Charmed Triquetra", "The Crone Star Theban Witch", "The Voodoo Tiki" and Kipling West Halloween designs. There is no better.
