Not very effective,

This is a replacement for the case that ships with the Olympus LS-10 recorder. Unfortunately, it does not address the case's shortcomings:
- no belt clip - the case is too loose for the recorder

It's a case. It does what a case is supposed to do.
Will protect recorder from bumps and scratches. I agree with the other reviewers that it is a bit loose and has a lousy inner "pocket" for batteries (one which they will inevitably fall out of), but it does the job. I don't mind that it doesn't have a belt loop. I'd rather put the recorder in my pocket than wear it on my belt anyway. If you are looking for a protective case that is more form-fitting you should check out the silicone one.Olympus Silicon Clear Skin - Protective cover for digital voice recorder - silicone - clear It may be more along the lines of what you want.

My initial thought was the case is too big. Second thought: this would have been obvious to Olympus, too, so they must have a reason. My guess: they expect you to leave the foam windscreens installed.
That way, the case is the perfect size, and the microphones (which go toward the zipper) have extra protection. The slight compression on the windscreens is enough to hold the recorder securely, but not enough to mar the foam. The inside pocket is the right size for an SD card in its protective case. The loop on the back is about 10 mm in diameter - fits a carabiner, belt clip, lanyard, or pegboard hook. So with a little imagination, you can attach it to pretty much anything. All-in-all a well thought out design, well made, decent but not superlative materials. China. This case comes with the recorder, as do the windscreens.

so, assuming you're looking at a replacement case for this, I'm left wondering:
Why would you want another one like the one you lost? Probably because it's "made" for your LS-10, but really, that case was never any good, was it? There was no belt loop or strap, one very shallow pocket that readily spills its contents whenever the case is opened, it doesn't hold extra batteries well (they fall out of the aforementioned pocket and roll away), and it doesn't hold any other accessories well. I suppose the zippers are nice, and it is mildly padded, and that makes the case better than a ziplock, but overall this case, in a word, sucks. A petition should be started to demote the person who designed it. At the very least, they should be forced to stand trial for their poor design. |
