Improved and More Fun Than Ever,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder (CD-ROM)
I've played each of the previous CSI games and this one was even better. There are none of the quirky little bugs that affected previous games, and the new 3D feature is fun and very interesting. There are times when you have to turn the evidence around using the 3D feature in order to get trace. This games seems to be more logical and therefore it's fun and challenging without being frustrating. There is even a "cheats" section if you really get stuck. All the TV characters seem to be doing the voicework for their game counterparts with the exception of Sara. The actress they got to do her part in this was very annoying - trying to imitate Sara's odd speech pattern.
The games are each a little longer, making the $30 price very reasonable for the entertainment value. This game is on one CD only, so you have to have it in to play. (Unlike previous games that took more to load.) However, the transitions from scene to scene are a little annoying because each time it takes you back to the title page while the CD loads the new scene. A minor thing, but think about this happening over and over throughout the game. They've also improved things by offering only certain tools for each piece of evidence. While you still have to know what you are doing to use them, it makes it much less frustrating when you don't have to go through each tool before finding the correct one to use. They've also added a "mobile" lab which doesn't add much to the story. Still, I applaud them trying to improve with each round. I feel this is a great value for the money. Like the show, this series of games continues to be strong, riveting work, with technical improvements with each new entry. This one is particularly well done; the improvement in the interface is a big plus, so much so that you no longer have to fight the game to get it to do what you know is supposed to be the next step.
The cases are longer and more complicated, with the same kinds of plot twists and surprises that you get on the show. You also don't have to do as much pixel-hunting to find evidence, and that's a big relief; the previous games were frustrating in that regard. The puzzles are all relevant to the cases at hand (no chess puzzles here), and usually the next step is a logical one, so you're not as likely to get stuck in some weird logical cul-de-sac. I finished it in two intense days with all the helps turned on. Graphics, writing, and voice acting are all first rate. I didn't notice the substitution for the Sarah Sidle and Catherine Willows characters until I read it here, so it really doesn't have to get in your way. The atmosphere is marvelous. They've increased the amount of between-scenes pictures of nighttime Las Vegas that permeate the show, very cool and mood-inducing. I'd take the Mature rating seriously, considering the kind of show it is. Scary or dirty? No. Gory and with lots of adult situations? Yes. Great gritty stuff for fans of the show, but not perhaps for kids.

first off, ATI Radeon users watch out!!!!,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder (CD-ROM)
what an interesting journey i had with this game! i tried the demo, got hooked, played the full game... and had the game freeze up on me requiring a hard reboot, over, and over, and over. i couldn't figure out what on earth was causing this. i cleared all viruses, spyware, and defragged. then i googled and found that this game DOES NOT WORK with certain ATI radeon cards. i'm using a 9800 pro. i think i read it may just be this problem with the 9000 radeon series. if the demo freezes on you, the full game will too, so don't waste your time or money. how can i play graphic-intensive games like half life 2, FEAR, call of duty 2, far cry, the indigo prophecy etc. but i can't play this?! they say this game makes the ATI cards "overheat." huh? i think the only way that's possible is if ubisoft screwed up the coding, because these graphics are no big deal.
how bad did i want to play this game?? i actually switched out my radeon with an old nvidia card just to play it! and it was pretty good... for a while. as a strictly cinematic experience, this game definitely got it right. where it fails is in the interactive experience. the dialogue, character and evidence are all incredible in my opinion. while at times all the evidence might get too confusing and complicated, for the most part the stories were wonderful. but the gameplay ends up getting old. you're required to talk to one person, then go talk to another person after that (which of the 5 people? why, find out by trial and error! fun?? nope). every time you switch between people, you get a loading time, which is really annoying. this game is so reliant on the cinematic factor, i almost think the game could have been better if they just told you "talk to this person. now talk to this person" instead of leaving you guessing. on the other hand, when you're not STUCK, the game flows quickly and nicely. when you ARE stuck, it just sucks. bottom line? this game is fun at first, and then wears out its welcome. i think this could have been an excellent game if some more work was put into it to improve the gameplay. unfortunately, you're left with a game that screams "mediocre." at least it's fun to play a couple of cases, just to see how the story and dialogue goes (and there's only 5 cases i think, so you're not getting a lot for your money as far as quantity either).

This is a great game! It is pretty much the same as the 3 previous CSI games, but you get to analyze all of the evidence yourself which takes more time. The graphics are great, and the stories are all very interesting. The tools move when you use them, and the environments are somehwat 3D, because you can zoom in on certain areas.
The only downfall is that the voice of Sarah Stokes is obviously a poor imitation, and can get very aggravating at times. I am sure that her voice isn't real. All of the other voices are the real cast members. GREAT GAME!!!

Great Game,

I think this is a great game, even if you haven't watched the show. I think some of the characters looked better in the previous games, but I did like the new 3D for the environments, even if it took a little getting use to at first. I've seen people complain about Sara's voice, which is true, they didn't use the actresses voice. What they did do, was have someone try to mimic how she talks, but ends up sounding very valleygirlish. However, the voice it's self isn't that annoying.
The interface is different from the previous games as well as evidence collecting. They changed it from collecting trace off evidence before picking up an item, to collecting it after. Unfortunately it causes a few issues if the item wasn't rotated to the correct angle. Over all once I got use to it I liked the new setup over the old one. Also having the ability to turn off some of the tips and such made the game a little more challenging, with out being overly tedious. I didn't really notice the cases being longer then the previous games, averaged maybe 2 hours per case. Sure the game is a little linear, but most games of this kind are, which also reduces the playability of them. Going through a case more then once isn't really likely unless you insist on finding every little piece of evidence (which isn't required for masters by the way). However it was still fun and the cases interesting enough to keep you going.

This game is great. I bought it for my mom who loves the show, but then started playing it and couldn't stop. The cases are the perfect lengh--challenging enough to take a few sit-downs, but not so long you get frustrated. There are three difficulty levels, and you can turn on or off various 'hints'. I had all the hints on and found it very rewarding. There are five cases to solve, and with each one I was guessing (usually wrongly) with great intensity who the perp was. The voice acting and 3d animation is great too; apparently the previous games were in 2d, but I can't imagine how that would work having seen how fun this dynamic is.
I had a little difficulty installing the game--it took three tries--on my windows vista computer, but now it works perfectly. The loading times between sites are only a few seconds, so you never get bored or anything. Of course the game isn't for tiny children, but from what I've seen of the show, if you let them watch that the game wouldn't be much of a shocker. I can definitely see why fans of the show would enjoy this, and as a non-fan, I found it very fun as well.

This game issooo much fun! It's interesting, challenging, and has the characters we all love from the television show. There are 5 different cases you need to solve to win the game, and you play alongside a different character in each case. You get scored by Grissom on your ability and casework after solving each one. If you have trouble with something, you ask your "partner" for a hint. He/She will give it to you, but then you lose points from Grissom. The graphics are good, and the diolague is great. It is all very accurate, and I would highly recommend this game. I do have one complaint: There were only five cases, and if you love this game so much that you solve a case a day, then you will have finished the game in less than a week. I wish there were more cases to solve, but I guess that's why there are more editions of the game! It's really a great game!

I liked this edition better than the former ones, it was somewhat easier, in the sense that you didn't have to waste time trying every piece of equipment to analyze the evidence because only a few that will work are offered to you for use each time. You also don't spend time hunting every little pixtel for evidence. You can still miss something, but not as easily as you could on the older games. What I did find to be a real drag was the length of time it takes for the game to load each new location. It seems to take forver to go from the lab, to the crime scene and right back again. I have a new computer which is quite fast, but yet, it still takes forever to load.
The cases are longer and they sort of tie together but in a way where you can us your past knowledge to help you solve them. I think UBIsoft did a great job with this game and I can't wait until the new one comes out in September. I got this game for little or nothing either off of Amazon or Ebay, I forget which one, but it was well worth the price.

When I loaded the game it wouldn't open. My computer is new (Nov 06) and I kept getting a security problem alert. I was able to open it from RUN: in the start box as long as I didn't open any other program before I opened the game. I emaied tech support and they told me to change the CSI.exe to CSI old and then download update from their site. I was in the middle of game 3 and since changing the exe to old it would never open again no matter what I did. So the game was a blast but I will not purchase another game made by UBISOFT.
