3.0 out of 5 stars Good Variety
This is a great driving CD. I rate it a 3 out of 5 because when I watch CSI, I love the instrumental techno sound in the background during the lab scenes. This CD only has two instrumental tracks. The rest of it is like listening to alternative rock, which is in reality, mainstream.

Being a fan of the show, I eagerly awaited the day when the show's music would be availiable as a soundtrack. Now that I have it, it's become one of my personal favourite albums of all. From lively rock and roll and chaotic techno to eloquent chill-out, this CD has it all:

-"Who Are You" by the Who. It's the song you hear every time you watch the show. In its entirety, it's a great song that is worth hearing over and over again.

-"Everybody Out of the Water" by the Wallflowers. It's kind of a blah-ish song, since if lacks a solid melody. I didn't care for it at first, but I can live with it.

-"Crystal" by New Order. This has got to be one of my favourites off this album. It's got a solid beat and melody that's memorable and pleseant to listen to. A great song!

-"Come Into Our Room" by Clinic. A haunting downbeat techno song that seems to reflect the gloomy nature of the show. It's a creepy song.

-"Give It Away" by Zero 7. Instrumental chill-out track with piano. It's a very pleseant track.

-"Day By Day" by Badmarsh & Shri. Another decent chill-out track. It's not as upbeat as the previous track, but it's still notable.

-"Inhaler" by Hooverphonic. Really downbeat with an occasional guitar riff. It's exactly the kind of song that's heard now and then on the show. It's memorable and makes for a fine ambience.

-"We Luv You" by Grand Theft Audio. Very chaotic heavy-techno-rock and roll track. Seems out of place compared to the other tracks, but it's an awesome track.

-"Hell Above the Water" by Curve. Another heavy song with annoying synthesized vocals. It's not the greatest of tracks here.

-"To Get Down" by Timo Mass. A potentially fine techno track, were it not for Fatboy Slim's annoying remix. The original mix is much better.

-"Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers. Classier rock song with a definative beat and sound. Sounds like something Edwin Starr would sing. It's another great song!

-"Little Gem" by Euphoria. Back to the chill-out with this haunting song.

-"Song for Olabi" by Bliss. Another chill-out track with a tribal twist.

-"Unbound" by Robbie Robertson. A downbeat song that lacks a solid melody, but it's quite pleseant.

-"Investigation Suite" by John M. Keane. A collection of scores from the show. Downbeat like the rest of the album.

-"Grissom's Overture" by John M. Keane. Another piece of the show's score, carrying a more profound melody and ends with a powerful note.

5.0 out of 5 stars "the who's who in todays CSI ~ this is a little gem", December 27, 2002
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Audio CD)
My favorite show is "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", am a huge fan and the music is a plus. With a theme that will grab you immediately "WHO ARE YOU", performed by The Who composed by Pete Townshend is a classic from the late '70s. We can only soak up "EVERYBODY OUT OF THE WATER(NEW FRONTIER)", performed by another successful group The Wallflowers, with lead singer and composer Jakob Dylan at the helm.

This is a must have keeper for the fans of the TV show and the cues from the talented artists that appear on this album---played this several times and have picked out new favorites each time. Can visualize each cue that takes place on the show when listening to the soundtrack---would be nice to have footnotes on what music goes with certain cues on the episodes. Maybe if they have a sequel to this album "More Music from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", more detailed information would be a welcome.

Several prime examples are "INHALER", performed by Hooverphonic from the mid '90s ~ "DAY BY DAY", with Badmarsh & Shri featuring Kathryn Williams (vocals) blends of newage/electronic genre ~ "WE LUV YOU", if it's harmony with a beat then you have Grand Theft Audio with a rock 'n' roll on a stereo ~ "HELL ABOVE WATER", performed by Curve, as we may have a problem after The Wallflowers advise everybody out of the water.

This wide variety of music gives the listener a taste of just about everything under the "Music Worlds" sun, and then some. The main composer John M. Keane delivers some very potent scoring as his musical baton is still smoking with the likes of "INVESTIGATION SUITE" and "GRISSOM'S OVERTURE", composed and performed by the composer himself---quality was the utmost consideration when bringing this soundtrack together---and my fellow "film-score-buffs", it shows!

Total Time: 75:47 on 16 Tracks ~ Hip-O Records 440-069-401-2 ~ (2002)

4.0 out of 5 stars Like the show, this CD is bright & cool (but not nerdy), October 11, 2002

The music has always been a strong feature of the program "CSI," so my expectations were high for the show's soundtrack CD. This CD meets and sometimes even exceeds those expectations. It has a super line-up of cool and ear-friendly tunes, most notably a strong new Wallflowers cut, "Everybody Out Of The Water." Of course it begins with the obligatory theme song, the Who's "Who Are You." (I was pleased and amused when the show's producers picked yet another Who song for the new "CSI: Miami" spinoff. At least they don't face the dilemma of the "Law & Order" people, having to turn out yet another minor variation on the basic "L&O" theme every time THEY do a spinoff.) The final two tracks were written by John Keane, the show's primary composer. In between the Who and Mr. Keane is some prime stuff.

To me, one important feature of a quality soundtrack CD is that it introduces me to artists I wasn't all that familiar with before. This disc achieves that with intriguing songs from Badmash & Shri, Grand Theft Auto, and Bliss. The songs by more familiar people are pretty fine too, especially the dreamy "Inhaler" from Hooverphonic and Curve's energetic "Hell Above Water." I hope the CSI team follows the practice of other TV shows such as "Friends" and "Dawson's Creek" and later puts out a 2nd soundtrack CD!

I enjoyed this CD a great deal. I was also very happy to find that one of the songs I'd really hoped would be on it was there as I really wanted to know who sang it :) If you're looking for a great mix of songs to boost your mood, or some great driving tunes, I'd really recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Soundtrack!, February 11, 2003
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Audio CD)
ok I bought this just because I like the show but I got to say this is one really hot soundtrack!

It blasts of with The Who, followed up by the wallflowers Everybody out the water which alone makes this soundtrack worth buying, you then have Crystal another superb rock hit in the making!

This soundtrack is fresh, upbeat & just great to listen to some other highlights are Everybody get down, the amazing Unbound and the two insturmental pieces at the end. Which just round it off nicely, just need some more info than the small amount we got!

This is different in the best way, like the show new and hip, the music blasts from the first and never stops its got stuck in my CD player for good reason, you get something different from it everytime you listen to it. Like all great soundtracks you come back to it time and again. CSI has delivered the goods again with this awesome highly recommended soundtrack, any chance of a follow up? This is a gem, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for "CSI" fanatics and music fans alike!!, January 11, 2003
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Audio CD)
As a die-hard fan of "CSI", I had to own this CD. The fact that the music is amazing was a pleasant surprise. Since I bought this CD, I can't stop listening to it. It's addictive. If you're a "CSI" fan, when you listen to it, it just feels like the show. Like the show, it's beautiful, haunting, creepy, fun and sexy music. I had a fun time the first time I listened to it remembering certain scenes of the show that matched the music. They have done an OUTSTANDING job. BUY THIS! My personal favorite is John M. Keane's "Grissom's Overture". It's a beautiful peice of music that absolutley fits the shows hero. Whether you're a CSI freak or not, you won't regret buying this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent music that you wouldn't hear on other soundtracks, September 25, 2002
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Audio CD)
I am always iffy about T.V. show soundtracks but this one is really cool - their song selection for the album was awesome.....great songs, plus I was introduced to a bunch of stuff I never would've gotten into otherwise (!).
Firstly, as a HUGE fan of Jakob Dylan, I was super super siked to see a new track by the Wallflowers. It's soooo good! It's one of my favorites on the album but I'm biased :)
There's also the theme song to the show "Who are You," by The Who, a classic song.
I didn't really know the other groups on the album that well but their songs are REALLY cool, a lot of European and ambient stuff I never would have listened to otherwise - I want to get some more stuff by the other artists, especially Timo Maas, The Chamber Brothers and New Order.
ALL CSI fans should get this, and all you Wallflowers fans should be all over it for the new material - that's why I bought it. I'm glad I did though because it really did introduce me to a bunch of cool music that I really never would have discovered if it weren't for the soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the show :-), June 11, 2006
By
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Audio CD)
I bought this when it was a new release because I have always loved CSI. It usually plays great music throughout each season so I wanted to hear the compilation that they came up with. I'm not disappointed. It's so good. The best funky songs here are Everybody Out Of The Water and Crystal. I could play them on repeat for days on end. One of the most beautiful and haunting songs on here is Inhaler. It's stunning. I keep looking out to see if they have a second cd, but no such luck yet. In the meantime, if you love the show, you'll also love the music. There are some great choices here.

I loved this CD, but was looking mostly for John M. Keane's compositions. His music is what creates the emotion and thrilling tension in every CSI episode. If you want a REAL treat, check out his SOLO CD "Straight Away," which highlights his amazing musical and technical prowess. He uses his own depth defining lyrics and vocals too. It's a MUST HAVE for any REAL CSI fan! Check it out -- they sell it right here in Amazon.com. Listen to the audio samples and you will recognize Mr. Keane's style right away.
