To many problems, March 14, 2009
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Dark Motives (Video Game)
I have to agree with Bonnie. I'll never buy from this company again. Not only did Dark Motives start using a foreign language that my computer won't let me fix but on the other game I couldn't get past a specific game. When I finally went to look up cheat sheet I realize the game is not letting me ask a very important question. I couldn't move on with the case since this question would not come up. To much of a hassle

Good games, but there are glitches., July 8, 2008
This review is from: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Dark Motives (Video Game)
Both of these games are wonderful to play for anyone who is or was a fan of the CSI television series. I imagine it could even be enjoyable for those who've never heard of it, but happen to enjoy point and click adventure style games.
The only reason these games didn't get a five star score is because of the glitches. In the first game, though the graphics weren't entirely fantastic, the game lagged considerably. Also, in one of the last cases, a glitch prevented me from seeing an important part of a room by replacing the background with another part of the same room. Luckily, I was able to find a walkthrough, and since the pointer changes when hovering over possible evidence, it was fairly easy to progress through the case.
In the second game, a glitch appears in the beginning of the second case when the dialogue text appears in French for no reason. Though it took me a few hours to find it, this can be remedied by going to the UbiSoft website, clicking on 'support', and searching the knowledge base for the PC version of CSI: Dark Motives. What's strange is that if you put 'language pack' in the search field, nothing will come up. So you have to use the drop-down menus on the left, and the language pack is at the bottom of the list. Through my online searches, I've found out that this glitch is apparently just a product of the double (and/or triple) game pack(s).
If not for the glitches, I would've given both games a five-star rating. However, the search for the relatively obscure language pack was annoying. Other than that, the cases are just hard enough to make you work for it, and the stories aren't lost in the shuffle, so to speak. Also, the character voice acting in the first game (though done by the original cast of the show) is kind of emotionless. It gets much better in the second game; chalk it up to the actors being inexperienced at voice acting, I suppose.
Overall, once the problems that can be fixed are, both are very enjoyable games.
