CSI: Miami - The Sixth Season

CSI Miami, the #1 watched show in the world, has the ultimate "cliff hanger" in it's 6th year. David Caruso, as Lt Horatio Caine, has helped to create a cult-type following for the show by creating a very memorable and fan-loved character. Feeding on that frenzie, the writers found a way to get us all coming back for more in the up-coming 7th year: they've recreated the whole "Who-Shot-JR" hoopla that the retro-show Dallas once had.

That's right: season 6 leaves Miami's Horatio Caine laying on a run way, with the sunglasses-of-justice broken in front of him, after a single shot rings out thru the air. Is he dead? Well that's what they'd like you to believe. And in all honesty, Mr Caruso does a staggering job of acting a "death rattle" in this final scene. Frankly, it's disturbing to any fan of the redhead. Rumor has it (as does a behind-the-scenes interview with Caruso) that it is merely a set-up, a faked death, to enable Caine to go after his arch-nemisis of season 6 in year 7.

All in all, Season 6 survived the writer's strike rather successfully...
Casually running thru-out the whole season are snippets of Eric Delko's fight to overcome his head injury... Ryan Wolfe's struggle to get his job as a CSI back after his season 5 foul up... and an entirley new storyline to boot: a new enemy has entered the playing field for Horatio Caine. This time it's one who has found a way to steal his family. That's right... I said family: Horatio has a long lost son. One he didn't even know existed. One who has gotten himself into a bit of trouble. And unfortunatley the mother has turned out to be a con-artist that he met while he was doing undercover work 17 years ago. I guess that explains why she disappeared before Horatio even knew she was pregnant. To make matters worse, Ron Seris, the new enemy at large, has found a way to get right in the middle of all of it.

The season was also filled with episodes that were very memorable.
"Bang Bang Your Debt" was an episode done earlier in the year that brought back a long-since-gone CSI favorite, Speedle. "Gurillas in the Mist" implied a frightening point about how easily death can be calculated certainty when computer technology is mixed in with ballistics. The season's 2-parter ("Ambush" and "All In") showed us just how tough Calleigh Ducaine really is when she gets kidnapped... and what happens when Horatio get's extridited to Brazil on a murder charge. "To Kill a Preditor" gave us a bird's eye view of online child preditors and how the world has changed because of them. "Rock and a Hard Place" forced us say goodbye to an original cast member, Alexx Woods. Lastly, the finale, "Going Ballistic," left us hanging on the edge of our chairs wondering if Horatio was alive, if his family was safe, why his son packed a gun in his duffle bag, and what CSI Ryan Wolfe had to do with it all.

Put this one on your pre-order list OR toss it in your Amazon cart if your reading this after the S6 release... it will surely become a staple in your TV DVD collections.

C.S.I. Miami - Season 6

so far season six has been the best season of csi miami. similar to the plot line fron season 4 with the mali noche crime gang except this time its about horatio and his son. the ending in episode 21 is not to be missed and there is an excellent 2 part episode aswell. a must see for any fan of csi miami.

When the writers and producers came up with the concept of giving Horatio Caine a son in season six of CSI Miami, I was like WOW !! The story was played out beautifully and even introduced Elizabeth Berkley as the mother of Horatio's son; Kyle. The rest of the characters of this great show had there moments and the season has never been better. From beginning to the explosive ending .. CSI Miami Season Six delivers everything great television is suppose to be about.

Season 6 was the best. The characters all get pushed to their breaking points. Calleigh gets crazy with her gun, Delko gets crazy over Calleigh, Ryan gets crazy with text messaging, and Alexx gets crazy sick of seeing dead bodies.
What makes CSI: Miami so awesome? Is it the fact that every frame is the same color as a mai-tai? Or that Horatio gets to shoot somebody in every other episode? Or that all the insert shots could be in a Flo-Rida music video? I don't know for sure, but it is awesome. I mean, there's criticism that its not as gritty as the other CSIs, or that David Caruso's Horatio does nothing more than take off his RayBans, do a three-quarter turn, put his hands on his hips, deliver a one liner, then puts on his shades again and walk away in slow motion. But in the end, who cares! Its a way sexy show without being sleezy. Its informative and technological without being outrageous. Its not like they're in car chases and hanging out the windows while driving with their toes, guns ablazing. Its not like they're jumping over fences in a Bionic Woman fashion to apprehend suspects. No, they get shot-they go down. They do wrong-they get fired. They die-they stay dead...just come back as ghosts. Yes, I will say it again. Season 6 is the best!

The writers of this show need to take some notes from the writers of CSI New York. David Carusso has to be one of the worst actors on TV, he over exaggerates everything and the cheezy one liners and his sly putting on and taking off the sunglasses are more funny than anything, he over plays every line he has on the show. The female actors on the show make it somewhat tolorable but the acting and the story lines are more funny than anything. CSI New York is so much better than this show and the story lines are much more realistic and believable.

The very intention of defining what has made C.S.I. Miami has become the most popular, famous and charismatic respect its two other ones, is nothing easy, but humbly, I will try to make the attempt.

First and foremost, the hieratic structure of the team. H. is a collective leader and there are relatively few scenes in which we watch him working alone in the lab, he is part of the team, apart of his enigmatic and peculiar personality; moreover, the formidable acting of the female forensic, the fact of being dealing with hard themes of beating actuality (the well known fact with the immigrants), the dazzling camera, Miami's buildings' majestic buildings, the colossal beaches and all what it implies, shapes this spring city and at the meantime, allows a major margin to undertake new sports, hobbies and fraudulent issues.

On the other hand, the feminine cast is extremely alluring. Notice on one hand, the difference in ages between the Apollonian beauty Emily Procter contrasting with the Dionysian Eve la Rue, is minimum; the professional approach given by Mrs.Alexander is much more human and attracting respect her own male colleagues, in New York and Las Vegas.

And finally, the sense there's a sensitive aspect of paternal warmth of H. respect his affective world, respect his other two colleagues. The presence of his son and his ex-wife hovers that gloomy and distant gaze of H.

The certain of the case is that this series has become an obligated reference, since the last three years until this date, and that's why this collection is part of this evidence.

After six seasons they still have it.

The cliffhanger suggests death, but he's not dead, why else would Ryan of all people, get the "ITS DONE" call, HELLO. The eighth season wouldn't last three episodes without its main character, plus they had way too many likable characters killed off in the last few seasons to survive another replacement.

Then again, they did say with those new bullets, "every shot is a kill shot," so what we could have here is the writers' attempt at the death of Captain America. An event so tragic it draws in a new audience; opens up room for new characters to cater to a new demographic. Plus if that's the case then Ryan is a new traitor in the midst, very spooky. Fun to watch though.

Maybe I am being too harsh. Maybe I am unknowingly comparing this series to the Las Vegas series. Whatever it is, this season of CSI: Miami is missing something. The acting seems so forced and over the top (more than usual). Khandi Alexander's character has been annoying since the inception, but she is just wacked out this season. And I don't know if it's the writing, but it is as if the characters do not even listen to the dialogue of the other characters; they just kind of randomly come out with non sequiters (sp?) or something that has nothing to do with what was said before. It's as if they are all in a daze. Maybe it's always been like this and I just didn't notice, but I don't think so. What I really think is that this is a show about to 'Jump the Shark', or has done so, but we just haven't realized it yet. I guess we just need to see Horatio Caine waterski jumping a pool of sharks while adjusting the sunglasses on his face.

CSI Miami has always been the pretty, but vapid, offshoot of the original Vegas-centered show, with simpler writing and acting, less complicated cases, and much less realism (even for a TV crime show).

I've followed the series since its inception; it's always been just mind-candy compared to the original show. In this sixth season, Miami finally reaches the point of not being worth watching even for mind-candy. If you watch the episode "To Kill a Predator", I'm talking about the ending. Never mind the simplistic moralizing, but cmon...talk about jumping the shark.

More broadly, the opening sequences (eg, before the title credits roll) are glitzier and edgier than ever, and in proper Miami-style, attractive people are everywhere. It's pretty much only the chicks in bikinis that save this from a 2 star rating. But the usual things that weaken realism in this series are even more pronounced than before:

* The forensics people regularly go on police raids. By themselves. With just a handgun and no backup. Even in cases where a SWAT team would be called for...

* Far too many cases feature some complicated personal links to the CSI people.

* Horatio ends up shooting a lot of people for being in a scientist desk-jockey position. But somehow never is investigated for that despite all the "Internal Affairs" tie-ins in the series?

* It's almost always one of the first two or three suspects and they almost always give in when prodded to confess. And they always cooperate no matter how guilty they are. And the CSIs are doing the interrogations. And the minors don't need advocates. And...

* Somehow one small team covers the entire city's forensics needs while conducting those regular police raids.

* Somehow the female CSIs are able to show up wearing cute little white pantsuits, long loose hair, and stiletto heels and process a scene like a construction site (umm..loose dirt, heels... doesn't work, they sink!). Nobody gets dirty, their hair doesn't get gunked up, huh?

* Legalities are rarely covered. Warrants, probable cause, who needs that??

* Science is skimmed over perfunctorily. DNA is used to include suspects rather than properly to exclude them, fingerprint searches take fractions of a second, network IP addresses magically map to individual people's dossiers. Forensics is nothing other than science, so here the series loses its focus entirely.

* Proper crime-scene procedure isn't followed either: see something special, pick it up bare-handed! No documenting, no gloves, no nothing.

* Etc Etc Ugh

It IS fiction, so there has to be some glossing over of reality's mundanities. But unlike the original CSI there's no attempt to preserve suspension of disbelief. Add in the increasingly simple acting and poor writing, and the result is a dis-service to the CSI franchise. And not worth your time. Not recommended.
