CSI: Miami - One of the Greatest TV Shows on Air Today,
This review is from: CSI: Miami - The Fifth Season (DVD)
Those who, like me, had the chance to watch at least most of the episodes of this fifth season aired on TV (or occasionally on the web), will probably agree that this season was superb. Like any other shows from the CSI series, the Miami one doesn't really feel like a typical TV Show, but more like a new movie every week or two - but with the same cast.
What hooks me in CSI: Miami is definitely its tropicalesque setting that sets it apart from other CSIs shows, its inventive, smart and curious cases and the graphic production, which is very attractive and well-done. I also think that Horatio Caine (David Caruso) is the protagonist who gives the show a very distinctive appeal, playing the "super-hero-macho-man" role and, sometimes, overshadowing the other characters. This is another characteristic that makes CSI: Miami unique in comparison to other CSIs shows that don't really have so much focus on just one character. This seems to be so true that the DVD box set cover of this fifth season has only Horatio's close-up and downtown Miami buildings in the background. Can anybody see the rest of the cast? If this is fair, well, that's not up to me. There's just one thing for sure - CSI: Miami is one of the greatest TV Shows on air today.

I do enjoy this show and have all the seasons on DVD, but I have to admit Jimmy Park's review is fair and accurate. The lines and direction given to David Caruso are so cringe worthy. For a TV show to be based on something real, it should at least exhibit some reality and believability in order to have credibility. The producers go to so much trouble with lush sets, top notch equipment and other impressive props and yet the writers let us down with banal and ridiculous plots. The 'drive the bomb in the car to a deserted location before it blows' sequence was laughable.
There's ALWAYS a fiber or a fingerprint or some DNA left behind and I'm sure a lot of viewers like me are able to spot who the villain is very early on. Every episode it's the same: murder, the crew turns up (the beautiful people), Horatio delivers his cringe worthy one liner, opening credits, Alex says she'll know more at the "post", one of the beautiful people spots something either on the body or at the scene and says they'll "get it to trace", Horatio drops in from time to time with a "Let's do that" or "Find the gun, find the shooter" or "Find the bomb, find the bomber" line, blah blah blah, a bit of flirting between the beautiful people, an inch or so too much cleavage from Boa Vista and/or Cally and hey presto, Frank Tripp man handles the villain down the steps of the CSI building while Horatio stands in the background looking smug. David Caruso's acting duties may be restricted to putting on/taking off his sunglasses, putting his hands on his hips and nearly always looking down in a hunch back pose, but the guy who plays Tripp, all he does is look annoyed. One final thought. I've actually seen forensic investigators turn up at a crime scene and they wear these all in one white jump suits, covered footwear (like surgeons do) and face masks. Why? So they don't compromise the scene. That long blonde hair of Cally's must get everywhere at a crime scene, but you never see any of the CSIs bagging and tagging blonde hairs for later DNA analysis only to discover it was one of their own shedding over everything. It's a bit silly. As I said, I do like this show and am somewhat entertained by it. But as for coming over as realistic and genuinely dramatic, it's become more and more of a let down as the seasons have passed.

The first couple of episodes weren't the best but overall, it is a good series. It kinda looks like they are just putting something together to have a show on a couple of the episodes. That is my only negative. A couple of the old case files came back into the picture and the bad guy comes to justice. I love it when they do that!
Another good season for Miami:CSI!

WHAT HAPPENED??,
This review is from: CSI: Miami - The Fifth Season (DVD)
CSI Miami used to be my favorite show until it seemed to jump the shark in the 4th season with utterly ridiculous plot twists (Marisol & Horatio for example) But Season 5 really knocked the shark into oblivion with its overly produced scenes where the camera work seems to have upstaged the humanity of the key players. Cheesy writing, bad plots, maudlin twists have taken what was once a vibrant spin off to a great franchise and made it a caricature. Stop with all the fancy foot work and bring back some of the original and more grounded flavor

The serires should have stoped after 3 or 4 seasons. It does not have the content that keeps the orginal CSI program interesting.

Love CSI:Miami....I think it is the best of the CSIs. When Horatio takes off his glasses or puts his hands on his hips, I just howl. The scenery is great and the stories rock. Would love to see Delko and Calleigh get together. Also, would love to see more of the character Valera.

This season was definately a roller coaster of a ride with characters falling into and out of favor. You can really see how Horatio is starting to let what he did in Brazil get to him as he starts to wear darker clothes and start acting a bit more like a caring vigilante than the caring Leutenant that he started out as. The changing of characters and personalities has started something that could end this series in later seasons if the writers aren't careful.

Please read Jimmy's review (the one star one) before even considering watching or buying this series. I am a huge fan on all CSI series since their creation and this is the worst one by far.
It is insulting our intelligence with stories lacking any credibility and Horatio Cayne is turning into an unbearable "White Knight" born to save the world and hardly ever looking at any evidence in the lab. I understand that CSI was lacking some personal angles and too focused on the cases but now it is the opposite, too much personal stories and boring cases. I cannot believe this series is the most watched in the world when CSI Las Vegas, CSI NY, The Wire or the last seasons on the English series Waking the Dead are by far much smarter and enjoyable. |
