It does what it claims. Manufacturer says 200'max. distance without a target and that's all I could get - in daylight or at night. With a reflective target manufacturer claims 650' max. I easily measured 600'in broad daylight, and haven't tried farther. The camera tripod mount works fine, but for long distances you'll need a fine tune adaptor for the head; the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but could be better
Comparing the Stanley to the Hilti, I felt the Stanley was the better unit by an online comparison of the products. It is easy to use, but I believe the Hilti woudl have been the better choice; as it is better built. The Stanley has a plastic viewer, the Hilti has a glass viewer. The Hilti case is better built also. I am not sorry about purchasing the Stanley, but most...

I easily measured 600'in broad daylight, and haven't tried farther. The camera tripod mount works fine, but for long distances you'll need a fine tune adaptor for the head; the slightest movement of the instrument or the tripod head will throw the beam way off target. The 2X viewer works but if the light is not right, the cross hairs in the viewer are hard to see, and even in the viewer the laser spot is readily visible at long distances only with a target. The only negative comment would be that the instrument doesn't have any kind of external target sights.

5.0 out of 5 stars STANLEY TLM300 TRU-LASER MEASURER, January 3, 2007

A converted skeptic, I am continually impressed with the accuracy of this tool. It allows measurements that, with conventional tools, would require two or more staff, ladders and considerable time.

These facts, coupled with unbeatable price, make this an outstanding investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really works. Solid. A couple inconveniences though., February 25, 2007
This review is from: CST/Stanley 77-930 TLM300 Tru-Laser Measurer (Tools & Home Improvement)
It's amazing they can make and sell this for a few hundred dollars. I'm also looking at industrial versions that work about this well for thousands of dollars (but different connections etc).

Plus: it really measures things a hundred or more feet away (which is all I could test so far) and I bet it goes past 600 as claimed. The readings are very reproduceable. It has a pretty solid feel and several handy features.

Minus: for some reason it has various automatic rules for where on its body it considers the zero reference point, and you can change this but it often changes when I don't expect it to and I'm afraid I have gotten a few errors this way. There's two levels of how automatic the reference changing is, and I'm still confused about anticipating when it will change. This means I can't look through the viewfinder at a distant target and squeeze off several readings to check that they agree - the reference point never seems to be what I expect when I take my eye away from the viewfinder. Also, it turns out it's pretty difficult to hit a distant target with a laser beam, though the viewfinder is a big help. I need some kind of tripod mount with fine aim adjustment screws.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Funtional, July 14, 2007
This review is from: CST/Stanley 77-930 TLM300 Tru-Laser Measurer (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was able to use this device in minutes. It's simple and funtional...meets my needs for measuring building structures for my Spray Foam Insulation biz.

It has a strong LED laser with a cross-hair site...different. The LCD read out is perfect for the information to be easily read. It displays x-y and x-y-z planes.

The plastic case is alright and has the ergo soft-grip. It fits well in hand.

Highly recommend purchase except for extreme duty

This is one of the best measuring devices I have had the pleasure of using. The only drawback that I found is in bright sunlight or in steamy areas it is difficult to get an accurate reading. Otherwise, this is a terrific product and well worth the price.

Bought this product for my father, so I can't really tell how good it is. But father says it's good, the only awkward thing is that when used on tripod and because the viewfinder is located on the side panel sometimes it's not convenient to look into the viewfinder.

He saay that it's a good quality product, and it has international manual which comes in handy sometimes.

This review is from: CST/Stanley 77-930 TLM300 Tru-Laser Measurer (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Tru-Laser Measurer is easy-to-use and accurate. It was perfect for an accurate measurement of over 100' across water on a sunny day. Most people will be able to figure out most of the features without reading the instructions. The laser dot means you know exactly the point you are measuring to (espcially helpful on irregular surfaces).

5.0 out of 5 stars Laser Measurer, February 14, 2007
By
This review is from: CST/Stanley 77-930 TLM300 Tru-Laser Measurer (Tools & Home Improvement)
The accuracy of this unit is outstanding. It's easy to use and very versitile. I use it everyday to measure homes under construction. It greatly speeds up my work and allows me to measure areas I could not reach before or could not measure accurately. Imagine measuring the height of a two story foyer under construction when there are just ceiling joists that are 20+ feet in the air. With this tool, 1 person, no ladder, accurate to within a mm and takes a few seconds.

If you need repeatable accuracy, the cheaper versions simply won't do. Its not cheap, but what good tool is. This is not a toy, it is a nice instrument.
