Fine basic monitor. Does a good job displaying text, graphics, pics, movies, etc. No doubt lots of higher resolution/more stylish monitors out there but at no where near the price. The law of diminishing returns kicks in pretty quickly for me with a commodity like a computer monitor.

I've had a CTX VL-700 since 1998 with no problems at all, so I personally have had good experience with the brand.

If you are considering the CTX VL700, you should know that this CRT is NOT a true "flat screen" monitor as it is claimed to be. The screen is convex! True, it is probably not as "bug-eyed" as some older CRT's, but it is definitely not flat. I'm trying to set up a dual-monitor system with my current flat-screen CRT and was hoping this model would be the perfect match. However, I find the difference between the two side-by-side monitors to be too unsettling to the eye. I'm returning the CTX VL700.

To be fair, the display is quite nice--good contrast, vivid color, sharp text and images. (That's why I'm rating it with three stars.) And the price is pretty good, too. It's just not what I wanted, and I think the manufacturer and Amazon are misleading the public into believing it is a flat-screen monitor.

and there is nothing so great about monitors other than what they are designed to do. unless you have a TFT or somehting, any monitor you get is gonna do its job. there isnt any problems with this one, its just a monitor and it does its job great. as long as i can see the pictures and text, then im happy, after all what else can you expect? its a [inexpensive] flat screen monitor and i recomend it to anyone who wants to spend less on a flat screen monitor.

I've had this for about 10 months now and have been very happy. It has good image clarity at SXGA and also fast-switching between different display modes, which is essential for gaming. I use an NEC LCD as my workhorse monitor, but this is my gaming monitor. When it comes to playing games, nothing beats a CRT monitor. I also hook my Xbox to this CTX monitor using the x2vga xbox-to-VGA converter, which gives me HDTV quality when I play xbox games. Check out x2vga.com

I bought this monitor and it works absolutely fine. I mean looking at the other stuff, I believe this one stands better and same performance. I think, I got the best at a reasonable price.

Thought this would be a good buy but i was wrong!It died after 2 weeks,picture went blank and never came back.My old ctx is better and it's OLD.I'm looking at the NEC models now.Picture on the VL700 was good,not crisp but good.Maybe i just got one of the bads ones made that day?Price was nice but you get what you pay for too.

First off I would like to start by saying this monitor is great! What they mean by flat screen, is it's a flat screen.....there is no curve on the screen like most monitors have. I have nothing but good to say about this monitor. I have had it for one year and counting now. Sure its heavy but hey I need the lifting skills.....for the price of one of those cool looking FLAT SCREEN monitors compared to the price of this monitor, hey all that money that I could of spent on one of those expensive ones, I spent on something that is way more worth while. Overall I would have to give this monitor a A+.

Wow, what a total disappointment. This is NOT a flat screen monitor. It's a great price for a 17" monitor, but it is not what was promised. I will be sending this back first thing in the morning!!!
