More About the Author

Juan Alborná Salado was born in Regla, Havana, Cuba. Journalist, essayist, novelist and short story writer, he began writing at age 12 in a school newspaper, and has been general editor, information editor, reporter, correspondent, and writer for radio and B&W press. He published the volume of short stories Al borde de la genialidad (2010); the thriller novel El oro de Manny Plaza (2003), finalist in literay award competition of the Iberoamerican Cultural Institute Mario Vargas Llosa; and the book of essays Antirreflexiones (1992). He fought against Batista as a student leader in School of Arts and Crafts of Havana and head of the resistance in Regla. In 1960 he dissented from the path taken by Fidel Castro and served nine years of political imprisonment. He lives In the United States since 1979 his second exile because the first was in El Salvador in 1958. He has been invited to two congresos de intelectuales cubanos disidentes and recently to a congress of Latin American writers by Radio Exterior de España. En Cuba he wrote correspondent reports for newspaper Revolución and for Guanabacoa Radio. In the US, he wrote for El Miami Herald, was first editor at Radio Marti (VOA), correspondent to W-QBA Radio, translator/editor of speech's director of the Census Bureau, and a professor at George Mason University. He hold a Master in Spanish/Literature,and two BAs in Political Science and Journalism. He is member of the Hispanic Honor Society Sigma Delta Pi and the PEN American Center. He is currently editor/director of the online magazine Literarias Siglo XXI (published in UNESCO Web), enjoys fishing, watching old good movies like Casablanca, and sometimes drinks a beer.
