More About the Author

Donna Huston Murray has been writing since she was ten, but just let one of her books achieve #1 on Amazon's Top 100 in addition to #1 for Female Sleuths and now she refuses to stop. Her seven Ginger Barnes Main Line Mysteries (originally with St. Martin's Press) feature a woman much like herself, a headmaster's wife transplanted to an upscale neighborhood by her husband's job. To spice up her imaginary life, Donna also created Lauren Beck, a young cancer survivor and former cop, threatened her life, removed all her resources, and challenged the poor woman to get herself out of that!

In addition to the cozy mystery series and CURED...BUT NOT OUT OF DANGER (suspense) Murray has written for Mystery Scene Magazine, Reader's Digest, Echelon, and Redbook. Her work can also be found in the Edgar-award winning companion book, THE FINE ART OF MURDER, and the LETHAL LADIES I and II anthologies by Berkley. DYING FOR A VACATION is an earlier traditional mystery.

Beck is a genuine and complex character with just enough humor and vulnerability to make her immediately likeable.

I like to read books whose protagonist I would like to sit down and have a drink with. Lauren Beck is just such a person. She is a strong, funny woman with an indomitable spirit. As a cancer suvivor, she doesn't take any crap when some unknown person starts to mess with her life after she starts asking questions about a friend's death. As an ex-cop and a new insurance investigator, she creatively investigates varous insurance claims from some less than savory folks all while trying to figure out who is out to get her - because if she doesn't figure it out soon, she may not survive. I loved her and can't wait for her next adventure.

"Cured" is a page burner about an intrepid cancer surviver that grabs you on the way in and interferes with sleep until you can put it down. Hard-hitting spell-binder complicated by a scourge of identity meddling.... but our heroine is undeterred in her quest. Give it a shot!

I could not put down this book. Lauren Beck, cancer survivor, is accused of killing her friend and landlady. Her life identity is compromised (credit gone, checking account cleaned out, etc.) - someone is trying to frame her and make her go to prison for something she didn't and couldn't do. Why? Who's out to get her? Excellent mystery with a believable ending, a cast of characters - including the feisty Lauren Beck - that you feel you know (and some you're glad you don't want to know!), and a well written story with lots of medical information written for the laymen. Add to your reading list as soon as possible.

Someone's out to get Lauren Beck, cancer survivor and ex-cop. Shortly after the funeral of her landlady and best friend, everything starts going wrong in her life. I can't say much more than that without spoiling the plot - and that would be a shame. There are surprises in almost every chapter, twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the last page.

I can say that Lauren is a thoroughly likable, recognizably human, heroine. She's smart, resourceful and, even in the direst circumstances, never looses her sense of humor. Murray's writing style is pitch perfect; she sets her scenes beautifully, but never intrudes in the story.

Another Lauren Beck adventure please, Ms. Murray.

Lauren Beck is an ex-cop who has just overcome personal tragedy when she is faced with the death of her close friend and mentor. Lauren suspects that her friend's death was not as simple as succumbing to illness and begins an unofficial investigation. The plot twists in the story kept me guessing and turning pages late into the night. I am anxiously awaiting a sequel and look forward to spending more time with Lauren in the future.

Lauren Beck, ex-cop and cancer survivor is a strong and interesting woman. Donna Murray invests her heroine with intelligence but not over the top idiocy - as so many novelists do. Lauren is believable and fragile in many ways.

Her friendship and love for Corrine, an older friend who is an ex-lover of her father, is sincere and steadfast so it is with amazement and horror that when, after the funeral, Corrine's daughter screams that Lauren murdered her mother and throws Lauren out of the attic which she has been renting for some time, Lauren realises that she is homeless - and someone is destroying her life!

The twists and turns of this plot are riveting, the hero is totally believable and... but no spoilers.

I am looking forward to the next Lauren Beck novel on which I hope Donna Huston Murray is working her fingers to the bone for my entertainment.

Having read and enjoyed all seven of DHM's Ginger Barnes stories, I was looking forward to Murray's newest thriller, CURED. It, too, is lively, thoughful, clever, and attention-grabbing. Thoroughly engaging. Keep 'em coming!
