Customer Reviews

These gloves fit nicely and work very well.

I used them while slicing vegetables with a super sharp mandoline and while I definitely hit the blade several times, I wound up without a scratch.

I am a woman with medium sized hands and the mediums fit me well, as well as my husband's *larger* hands.

I was glad that this came as a pair since many seem to come with one. The first time I went to use them I only put one on figuring there was no way to cut the other hand that was holding the knife and they looked like they would be difficult to clean. About ten seconds later with my new very sharp Mundial 5100 Series 6-Inch Boning Knife, Black sitting on the counter I brushed up against it and cut the hand that was not gloved! Yes, it is nice to have two! And when handling a lot of meat it also provides a small amount of protection from the cold. I tend to buy in bulk and cut up and freeze ~30lbs in one sitting so my fingers get cold. I also feel I get better grip on the meat with these on.
The only thing I don't like is that they are hard to clean without putting in the washer. If I wanted to use them every day this would be difficult so luckily I tend to do all my cutting at once but still run into what to do with them if I am not ready for a suitable load of laundry (I would only wash them with towels not clothes and even then I scrub them with a dish crush and soap before I put them in). If you handle raw meat with them the weave ends up with meat packed in there!
Also- I did a test by putting a grape in one of the fingers and tried cutting it. I did not want to ruin the gloves so I did not really try to cut through- I suspect I could- but I ran the knife across as I might when slicing and it did not go through. There have also been numerous accidental brushes where I know I would have been cut and was not so they definitely help. I doubt they are going to help in situations with great force but for basic slicing and de-boning they are very helpful!

I just received these gloves today. Happy they came as a pair especially for the price. My only concern is they are a lil big. I read some women's reviews prior to purchasing saying they were too big and others saying they were tight. I still bought them because they were a good price and recommended by many for use with their mandoline. Most reviewers stated their body type/size in reference to their fit. But for those of you out there that want real measurements of the glove here they are...from very bottom of glove to tip of middle finger it measures 8.5" long. The actual finger length (again, middle finger) is 3.25" long. So there's a lil over a quarter inch of excess length at the tip of my middle finger after pulling the glove as far down as it goes. The pinky has the greatest dispartiy leaving a lil over 0.75" of excess length at the tip. The total finger length of the pinky is 2.75" long. I haven't tried them out with my mandoline yet but I'm sure it won't be too difficult using them. The fabric isn't too thick and they aren't bulky on my hand; just a lil too long. I tested their quality by attempting to cut with sharp scissors and they passed. I'm sure they won't resist professional and highest quality knives, etc. but they'll work just fine for me.

There are two gloves that come in this purchase. I am tall, medium frame female and the medium size glove fits a bit loose however I wouldn't go for the smaller size. My husband wears them too and it fits him. He is about 5'8" medium frame. It doesn't matter how careful you can bit with a mandoline, your hand will slip and you can cut yourself. I eat a lot of different raw foods and cut a lot of various produce. A MUST BUY FOR MANDOLINE USERS. SAVE YOUR HANDS.

The BladeX5 57100 Classic Cut & Slash Resistant Gloves are great. The only suggestion that I would make is there needs to be some sort of material incorporated into the palmer side of the glove to help grip knife handles.

I brought my very sharp knife and tried it on the glove directly. Of course, my hand wasn't in there because I wanted to test it first. Guess what? It is amazingly prevent the knife from getting through. I love it and I gonna keep it forever.

Like another reviewer, I bought this when I purchased a very sharp mandoline slicer. The first day I used the mandoline, I forgot I had bought the gloves. I used the mandoline and sliced my finger open. My fault. Then I felt like slapping myself when I remembered the gloves. I put on the gloves and have accidentally caught my finger in the V part of the blade. NO CUTS WHATSOEVER! No kidding.

The reason my finger gets caught on the V blade is not being able to feel how close you are. That's the only problem with any pair of gloves.

So I am living proof that they do protect you against cuts.

Another reviewer (who oddly has a lot of helpful votes) said they didn't want to ruin the gloves by testing them. Then what is the point? You can send it back if it doesn't work. Odd that.

I did test it and they are fabulous. As for washing them, that's not too difficult. I just soak them in warm soapy water and rinse them off, then hang to dry. They dry rather quickly too but just as a side note, you can still use them when wet, which is good because my veggies are sometimes wet.

Yep, this was a great buy and I'm very pleased.

I was surprised. I read many good reviews, and thought that these would be perfect for detail wood carving and obsidian knapping.

Well, the third time I wore them while carving, a slash that would not have gone through leather, went not only through the glove, but well into my skin. I contacted Amazon, and they requested that I dispose of the gloves-- they will provide a full refund.

Seriously, if you are looking to protect your hands while using any sort of precision-sharpened tool, these are not for you. they may protect against blunter knives, like kitchenware, but not woodcarving detail knives or palm chisels, and definitely not obsidian. It seems that sharp knives are NOT what these gloves are supposed to protect against.

(Yes, the cut that ripped my glove was a slash, not a stab or any other form of movement. Ironic for "slash-resistant" gloves.)
